• It kills you when your team doesn’t run the bases well. Just look at the Cubs. Or the White Sox.

...Fukudome ran the Cubs out of the seventh inning in a 0-0 game with his overly aggressive dash off second base when a pitch caromed away from Milwaukee catcher Jason Kendall. He stopped halfway to third when he saw the ball hadn’t gone far, and retreating to second wasn’t an option. Mark DeRosa, who had taken his cue from Fukudome, was motoring into second.

Oops. Deddo niku (or dead meat, if you don’t have access to an online English-Japanese dictionary).

• Cubs manager Lou Piniella should think about moving Felix Pie into the No. 7 spot. He’s not going to get anything to hit with the pitcher behind him. Alfonso Soriano, a 70-RBI disappointment a year ago, is no No. 2 hitter either.

• Why doesn’t Cincinnati cut the cord with Adam Dunn? Yes, he hits home runs, but, man, the strikeouts. He couldn’t lay off ball four leading off the ninth, not even with the Reds trailing by two runs, and Dusty Baker lost his debut in Cincinnati 4-2. Dunn isn’t the future; Jay Bruce is.

Pretty sure that the Fukudome mistake was actually DeRosa's fault.

Yep, it was. Fukudome broke slightly towards 3rd while looking for the ball and reading Kendall (which is 100% correct). De Rosa just put his head down and took off. He should have also looked at Kendall, he had a much better angle than Fukudome to see where the ball was (ie right in front of Soto).

Kendall did the right thing in running Fukudome down, as it's probably more likely to result in a CS than a Kendall throw.

OK he's a little hard to take today, but there are still glimpses of what got him the job 214 years ago.

Man, what a douche. Dunn can't win. So, earlier in the game, Dunn hits a squibber to get Griffey in from third, in what looked to me like one of those "make contact at all costs" kind of AB's and then he's promptly ripped for swinging away in the ninth. And what the fcuk does Dunn's position with the Reds have to do with Jay the Bruce. This writer's in Chicago right? Rip on the sympathy fcuk that is Corey Patterson. He's the temporary impediment to Bruce.

Is Rogers the least informed "national baseball writer" in a major city? I suppose that is too hard to prove, but he is at least a lock for the team photo.
