Chicago Tribune: Howry a bit tender after BBQ grill mishap (RR)

Bob Howry was much improved Saturday after being held out of Friday’s game because of a back injury sustained while moving a barbeque grill on his patio.

While it wasn’t as strange as Kerry Wood’s hot tub injury during spring training, Howry’s incident still merits a mention on the all-time list of bizarre Cubs injuries.

Has the reliever learned a valuable lesson?

“Yeah, next time instead of moving it, I might just wheel it,” he said. “I didn’t want to take the cover off to use the wheels, so I just picked it up.”

Bobby's back is doing better but the 3rd degree burns on his hands might take a little longer to heal.

If you pitch for the Cubs, don't do anything at all. It will cause an injury.

To pick up the grill, I hope Howry used his forearms, like Caine in "Kung Fu."

Well Al there is this pitcher called Bobby Whohe plays for the Cubs and thru his back out lifting his Weber Side-o-Beef-Master and people ask why does this always happen to the Cubs it is training Al. When we are in Two's On in March Ozzie Guillen tells us every year boys when it comes time to move durable home Appliances do not lift with your back lift with your knees get under it breath from your Dialaphram and grunt a little why just last week Mark Burly lifted his wifes new washing machine up three flights of stares and went out the next day and no hit Texas and a front loader too.

I was hoping for a list of all-time Cub injuries.

I remember Steve Trout falling off a stationary bike. Didn't Moises Alou recycle that one?

As bizarre barbecue injuries go, Terry Sawchuk is still the all-time champion.
