ChicagoSports When athletes speak, consider the source

When I talk about sports stars with my kids I tell them that athletes should be appreciated for their athletic skills. That’s it. I explain that being good at any one thing doesn’t mean a person has any other special attributes. I also tell them we shouldn’t pay particular attention to people simply because they can hit a three-pointer consistently, hit a baseball 500 feet, or can write a pithy comment. We should respect people with a special skill as we would any other person we don’t know. No more, no less.
