Chinese Taipei announce 28-man roster for WBC Qualifier

Pitchers (14) -  Wang Chin-Ming, Fu Yu-Kang (Uni-President Lions);  Lin Chia-Wei (Lamigo Monkeys). Kuan Ta-Yuan, Lin Yu-Ching, Tseng Song-Wei (Brother Elephants);  Lin Yen-Feng (Sinon Bulls) ;  Wang Yao-Ling (Chicago Cubs farm system), Wang Yi-Chen (NPB Yokohama Baystars), Lin Yi-Hao (NPB Yomiuri Giants), Yang Yao-Hsun (NPB Softbank Hawks), Cheng Kai-Wen (NPB Hanshin Tigers), Kuo Chun-Ling (Fubon amateur club), Chen Hong-Wen (national reserve squad)

Catchers (3)  -  Cheng Ta-Hong (Sinon Bulls); Lin Hong-Yu (Lamigo Monkeys); Kao Chih-Kang (Uni-President Lions)

Infielders (6)  -  Lin Yi-Chuan (Sinon Bulls);  Lin Chih-Sheng, Kuo Yen-Wen (Lamigo Monkeys); Peng Cheng-Min, Chen Chiang-Ho (Brother Elephants);  Chen Yung-Chih (Uni-President Lions)

Outfielders (5) -  Yang Tai-Kang (NPB Nippon Ham Fighters);  Chang Chien-Ming (Sinon Bulls); Pan Wu-Hsiung (Uni-President Lions);  Chou Hsi-Chih, Chang Chen-Wei (Brother Elephants)

Remember that in Asian countries, last name goes first. Not sure if Chin-Ming Wang is the same as Chien-Ming Wang, especially as it seems to say he’s a member of the Uni-President Lions…

Would love to see a game between the Lamigo Monkeys and the Brother Elephants.

Would the winner take on the Nippon Ham Fighters (even if they don't fight Ham)?

Assuming that's not THE Chien-Ming Wang, it's a bit surprising to me that Taiepei doesn't have a single major leaguer or US pro.

I was hoping Pan Zhi Fang would make it.

They have a guy from the Cubs' system in the squad up there.

Chen Yung-Chih and Tseng Song-Wei was in the minors for quite awhile. one for the Ms/As and the other for the Indians. IIRC Tseng really sucked this year in the early going but seem to have bounced back later on.

This is Chin-Ming Wang, the Uni-President Lions pitcher. (I think).

I went to look for Hong-Chih Kuo. Apparently he was released earlier in the year and is not pitching. Kind of a shame as he had a promising career a few years ago.

Remember that Japan/Korea finals last time? That was freaking awesome.

There isn't much info here about the players. Is this a young team? Has-beens?

I guess this isn't necessarily the team for the actual WBC anyway.

Last time they had 9 US-based players on their team.

Kao Chih-Kang, Peng Cheng-Min, Pan Wu-Hsiung, Tseng Song-Wei, Chen Hong-Wen, and Cheng Kai-Wen are all repeats from the 2009 team. The first three of those are over 30, the youngest is 24.

I got that feeling as well. Remember, they are in the weakest group by far. This is probably partially a team to win, but also partially a test-run to give some of the younger guys a chance to show their stuff for a roster spot in March.
