Chris Dial appointed to SABR Board of Directors, replacing Fred Worth | SABR

Congrats to BBTF’s own Chris Dial who has stepped up to fill the void on SABR’s Board of Directors. SABR will never be the same.

Chris Dial of Durham, North Carolina, has been appointed to fill Worth’s remaining term, effective June 8, 2014. Dial, a SABR member since 1994, is a frequent contender in recent SABR Board elections. The term expires at the end of the Annual Business Meeting at the 2016 SABR convention.

Dialed in was one of the things that I loved back in the baseball primer days.

I used to Lounge many moons ago, back when I interned in the safety department of a major airline (is it disturbing or reassuring that I had a lot of down time?). Anyway, someone popped in one of those days and reported that he'd just met up with Chris Dial and Larry M. for lunch, and that in order to help the hostess seat him at the correct table, he told her, "I'm having lunch with the two ugliest guys in this place."

I have no idea if this is true or not, but congrats Chris!

I second Rafael Bellylard's question. I read the covers off that book when I was a kid.

#6 and #13>> I don't think it's the same guy. According to a quick web search, the trivia author Fred L. Worth was a former Sacramento air traffic controller, and his first book was published in 1974 -- the Fred Worth in the SABR membership directory is a math professor, and was born in 1958.

Yes, it is the same Chris Dial. I hope you all get excited enough to join, if you aren't joined.

In the event of a water landing, Chris Dial can be used as a flotation device.

Sabermetrics makes strange bedfellows.

One of those two is serious, and the other is owed drinks by the floatation device.
