Clapp has a four-letter word for Canada’s hopes

He’s back. Stubby Clapp, often a Canadian baseball hero in past tournaments, was asked about Canada’s expectations for the coming baseball tournament. “Four letters,” he replied. “G-O-L-D.”

That is all.

Um, Chris Reitsma would disagree.

I thought he was going to spell S-L-I-M.

You all are spouting off without doing your homework.

Ok - who has Team Canada's pythagorean numbers handy?

Way to make the French Relay team look dignified, Stubby.

A guy saying he expects to win gold is less dignified than a guy saying his team will "smash" a specific opponent?

Whatever you say...

Au contraire. I watched them play against Team USA. Team Canada doesn't have the pitching depth.

Actually, I went and saw tehm play the USA team last weekend. Canada got mauled.

Of course, I was sitting next to Mike. I think I owe him a coke now.

Harmon, to guarantee a gold is far more foolishly bold and brash then announcing you will "smash" one opponent. France could have technically fufilled the prophecy even if they didn't win gold, so long as the US team was behind them. BUt to guarantee gold is saying you will beat everyone. And the French were a ton more favored to win their event then the Canadians are in Baseball (the general consensus is Bronze Medal game at best, from what I've heard).

Fair enough. Now show me where Clapp made any such "guarantee".

Forget pitching depth, I don't think Canada has the pitching shallowness either.

Okay, it's expectations, not guarantee. But it's still rather foolhardy.

I'm looking at Japan's roster now...they look like they have one helluva team. Anything can happen, but on paper they outclass the US by a good amount.
