Clear eye for the Cubs’ guy: Javy Baez seems to be OK after collision – Chicago Sun-Times

Javier Baez seems to be OK. Those headfirst slides are a problem.

Yeah, as I mentioned in the chatter yesterday, this is about the fourth time he's injured himself sliding headfirst in the last couple years. He needs to cut it out.

I'm certainly relieved this doesn't seem to be serious. He's been playing really well lately and the Cubs can't afford to lose him. Notwithstanding Fangraphs' giving the Cubs 97% playoff odds or whatever, they don't have this thing anywhere close to sewn up. After their 4-game set in Pittsburgh starting today, 14 of the following 19 (which is the remainder of the regular season except for that final set with the Reds) are against the Brewers and Cardinals. And 2 of the other 5 are on the road against a Rays team still fighting for a playoff spot.

ist it safer to slide headfirst, to avoid breaking ankles and such?

Did you learn anything from "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy?" I think I began paying more attention to my nose hair.

I learned that it's a good thing I'm not gay, because apparently it takes a *lot* of effort, and I'm far too lazy to put that much thought and work into everything I do every day.

Rickey! always slid headfirst, with a typically interesting back-story.

The A's changed pilots in 1980 when Walter Haas bought the team. The old one was apparently known for bumpy landings - no surprise to those familiar with Charlie Finley. One day, Henderson chatted with the new pilot, who told him, "You elevate to the lowest possible position and smooth it in."

It became Rickey's philosophy of base stealing; he felt he could get a more consistent trajectory into the bag and evade more tags going headfirst.

also an interesting juxtaposition of topics here

The headline has such a dated and labored reference. Is "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" back on the air or something?

I'm pretty sure "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" didn't advise on the use of puns and related verbal tomfoolery. Too bad such a service is not available.

Puns and related verbal tomfoolery are always to be encouraged. Puns in particular. They are the fart joke of wordplay. Thus, always funny.

Ergo, the ultimate form of humor is the fart pun.
