Clemson’s Kyle Parker can’t escape questions about his future

Clemson’s Kyle Parker’s a lot more relaxed on the baseball field this spring. And that could mean a crazy, nerve-wracking summer for Tiger football fans.

Parker had a standout season in football, the first-year quarterback helping Clemson reach its first Atlantic Coast Conference championship game. The Bartram Trail High School graduate has kept up that run during his third baseball season on campus, leading the Tigers in home runs, batting average, hits and runs scored.

With every big hit, Parker gets a new barrage of questions from Clemson fans worried their starting quarterback might make a run to the big leagues come June’s Major League Baseball draft.

Tough decision ahead for Mr. Parker. What would you do?

FTFY. Its sentiment remains the same, however.

I was just referring to the Florida State fans, not the players from the other team...

I saw the look in his eyes as he tried to outrun a Miami defensive lineman before he got sacked for something like ten yards when they upset Da U last fall. I bet he picks baseball.

I know that listed weights are kind of ########, but there is no way Ray Lewis weighs more than 270lbs.

What about Leonard Little? Admittedly he's not quite as dangerous without a car, but even so.

Jokes aside, it would seem like baseball--guarenteed contracts, less injury, etc.--is the rational choice if a player is equally good at both.

Where would he likely get drafted in MLB? If we're talking first-round, 7-figure bonus, then I would be inclined to agree with everybody else, this would seem like something of a no-brainer.

Go baseball. Its not like they play real football in the ACC.

Where are you more likely to have a longer, steadier paycheck, though? Mediocre football or mediocre baseball?

Something in me says the former, although I don't know much about the lower-echelon players and their careers in football. Are there 3rd-string players who can make a decent minimum for 8-10 years? As much as we have kidded about Neifi, I get the idea that's not as hard in football? Or no?

Only long snappers really. 3rd string guys at most positions are younger guys, on their rookie contract, that are sort of development projects for the team. If they pan out, they end up as starters or rotation guys, if they don't, they get cut and replaced by another rookie. 2nd string QB's can make a ton of money and rarely see the field though.

BA said in their latest draft tracker that he's playing his way into first-round consideration.

I know nothing about college football, but where does he project to go in the NFL draft? If it's anywhere close to the spot he's expected to go in the MLB draft, then football probably offers the bigger short term paycheck - the NFL signing bonuses for first rounders are pretty enormous.

he'll be the next Charlie Whitehurst

This site has him rated as the #6 QB in his draft class, which is what, a 4th round pick maybe? Lots of time to move up (or down), though.

He's rising. He is probably a borderline 1st Rounder if there isn't any question about his signability.
