Colorado Rockies trade Ramon Hernandez to L.A. Dodgers for Harang, cash - The Denver Post

Weird deal.

The Rockies traded catcher Ramón Hernández to the Dodgers for pitcher Aaron Harang and cash considerations Saturday.
The Rockies then designated Harang for assignment and will attempt to trade him. They have 10 days to make a deal.
Regardless if he’s dealt, the Rockies will save money in the transaction, roughly in the $1 million range.

This is a really weird deal. Harang put up a 105 ERA+ in 180 innings last year. His peripherals were pretty dicey and he's had the same peripherals (with much worse results) in the spring, but he's been a decent, reliable starter for several years now. He's owed $9 M (including the option buyout) for this year of which the Dodgers appear to be picking up half. Why are the Rox trying to throw this away for nothing?

Makes sense from the LA standpoint given they have about 23 starters on the roster.
