The Brewers’ situation at first base changed Friday when they learned Corey Hart will need knee surgery that will make him miss at least the first six weeks of the 2013 season.
Hart, who had surgery on his right knee last spring to repair cartilage damage, experienced swelling in that same knee during offseason workouts and was examined in Phoenix by team physician William Raasch. An MRI was performed that revealed a defect in the joint surface.
Raasch will perform surgery Tuesday in Milwaukee to repair that defect, knocking Hart out of action for three to four months from the time of the procedure. Hart’s rehabilitation will include bearing no weight on the knee for six weeks or so, taking him into early March. At that point, he is expected to need six to eight weeks to get ready to play…
The good news is that [Mat] Gamel is still on the roster and can now move back to first base in Hart’s absence. Otherwise, the plan was to use Gamel as a utility player at the infield corners and perhaps in right field.

1. DarrenGood people of Wisconsin, please commence with your binge drinking.
enjoy the memories and when the day comes for someone to pay him for those memories just walk away
walk away doug. walk away
I know that similarity scores aren't predictive, but Hart's most similar through age 30 is mostly guys who crapped out by 32 or so: Bobby Higginson, Richard Hidalgo, Kirk Gibson, Rondell White, Leon Durham, Geoff Jenkins, Jacque Jones, Wally Post. Cliff Floyd and Aubrey Huff represent the best case scenarios, and those scenarios aren't that promising.
indeed. i like corey. he has wildly exceeded what the club anticipated for his career
they should not lurch now in the other direction and reward him for what will likely be a disappointing slide into werthism
Or a cliff-dive into geoffjenkinsism.
indeed
yeesh
It ain't enough! I can't help falling in love with the idea that Corey will never surrender. Everything in my heart says that a little love will get the boy in the box back on the field again. All over, Brewers fans are saying, "I am by your side, and in your soul!"
Of course, the 92 days of rain will probably cancel the baseball season anyway...
