Costner: Save Omaha Baseball Stadium

LEEEAVE ROSENNNBLATTTT ALLLLLONE!

Even though corn doesn’t line the outfield at the city’s ballpark, Kevin Costner calls it a “field of dreams” for baseball fans who gather there each summer for the College World Series.

The actor will appear in a commercial starting on Wednesday that seeks support to keep the series at Rosenblatt Stadium instead of the city’s plan to build a bigger facility.

“The College World Series calls Rosenblatt its home,” Costner says in the commercial, which he made for free. “It’s a tradition as strong as baseball itself.”

It would be depressing for the CWS to be held anywhere but Rosenblatt Stadium. It really is an enjoyable experience.

I've been there, it is a great event, but I don't see why it can't be great in a newer facility. Rosenblatt is nothing special as a stadium, the event is what is special. That wouldn't go anywhere.

I used to cover sports, so I don't have a pressing desire to see a lot of the great events.

A CWS game at Rosenblatt is one of the few I hope to see before I pass.

BTW, thumbs up to Costner, who takes a lot of #### for reasons that elude me.

How do you pronounce the four tees in "ROSENNNBLATTTT"?

Rosenblatt is pretty run down. Downtown Omaha is starting to bounce back, a ballpark there would be pretty awesome. Either way, the city is going to shell out about the same amount of money whether they renovate Rosenblatt or build new, so they may as well get the most bang for their buck with a new stadium.

Isn't one of them almost allegedly breaking Cal Ripken's streak?

Concur.
Omaha can do better. Ask the photographers, who have to transmit from a cramped storage room under the 1B seats.
Aside from the CWS itself, what makes Rosenblatt special or unique? The nearby zoo?

I grew up in Omaha, and watched games in Rosenblatt (in addition to the CWS, Omaha Cardinal, Omaha Dodgers, Omaha Royals)for years. It's a wonderful place to watch a game -- close to the action, easy access.

But, as BeanoCook says, it would be great in a more updated place.

Again leave it up to the IDIOTS at the NCAA to strong arm Omaha into improving Rosenblatt Stadium. I would imagine the folks at the CWS would have no doubtbly have made the upgrades regardless. But to insinuate that the CWS would change venues is just blackmail on the part of the NCAA.

The NCAA reduces the number in scholarships, limits the hours of practice devoted to baseball and has now changed the start of the college season to give cold-weather school a equal opportunity against the schools in the southern part of the U.S. In essance, what that does is compress the schedule and decreases the amount of time student-athletes will be in the classrooms. I guess a football playoff system is out of the question because athletes will miss out on classroom time but apparently in baseball is not important. These changes will cause more harm than good and possibily more injuries to pitching arms.

Continuing to screw baseball, thanks NCAA!
