Cowley: Konerko hearing it from crowd

Yeah, well Catherine Pratt’s “65 Positive Ways To Deal With Negative People” still sux! So there.

So you want to boo Paul Konerko?

That’s fine with White Sox hitting coach Greg Walker. But Walker did send a message Wednesday to certain home fans he deems “negative people.”

“I’m not concerned because I know Paul is a professional,” Walker said. “But it does kind of hurt because I care so much about the guy, and he’s scuffling. At the same time, I don’t feel sorry for him, either, because he gets paid a lot of money to produce, and he knew it when he signed on with the White Sox.

“The one thing, the people that were booing—they have a right to boo—but when they walk into this ballpark and take a look at that statue (the Championship Moments Monument) out there, they better realize he’s a big reason that statue is even standing and we’re walking around here with rings on our hands.

“I would tell them that, if they asked me what I thought, ‘You better be grateful this guy played here, and one day you will be.”

he’s scuffling

"Scuffling" is 2 for your last 20. Paulie is way beyond that point. It's '03 all over again. If they're going to compete, they have to start looking at alternatives, even if it means putting Thome on 1B once in a while.

Same here.

If they were going to pick a guy from the '05 team to keep around for nostalgia purposes, I'd rather they had kept Aaron Rowand, or (of course) Frank Thomas.

At least Jermaine Dye is having a good year.

Is it possible Konerko is just really unlucky?

* 34.7% of his outs came on fly balls (league average: 36.0%)
* 43.9% of his outs came on ground balls (league average: 43.7%)
* 21.3% of his outs came on line drives (league average: 20.3%)

This season, his contact rate was 80.1% (league average: 80.8%). He's walking every 7 ABs or so.

His BABIP is a ridiculous .237.

I don't know, I'm inclined to think he is just a slow-footed slugger on a wild slide down the decline phase hill...but these numbers do look like might just be unlucky, no?

Uribe's still there.

Although his rate stat line this year is similar to his 2003 season, his strikeouts are up 50%. Still only 15% of his PAs, but it's troublesome.
