Ahh, a new injury.

Crawford had been scheduled to take his rehab to Triple-A Pawtucket on Saturday, and looked to be nearing his major league debut this season. But instead the 30-year old will have to put his return on hold.

Crawford said Friday that he might require offseason surgery to repair a shoulder issue, but should be able to play through that pain for the remainder of the season. He has played eight games during his rehab assignment, hitting .292 with zero home runs and one RBI.

MLB on Twitter says that Crawford will not rejoin directly after the ASG due to a mild groin strain. There really should be a website with an anatomical chart tracking Crawford's various injuries.

So it looks like the Astros will can Brad Mills after the season, leaving him free to replace Bobby Valentine. What are the chances Lucchino/Cherington/Henry will arrange a trade for Mills this season in an attempt to change the clubhouse culture?

I'd like to note that, like pretty much all Bobby V teams, the Sox are getting very good performances out of their minor players. Salty, Middlebrooks, Nava, Ross, Shoppach, and Doubront have all performed as well or better than could have been hoped. The bullpen has settled down since the first month. The problem is that, other than Ortiz, their big players are either hurt, or sucking, or both.

Edit: the only lower tier player who's really blown up is Bard, and his problem is more than just Bobby V. I suppose you could say Nick Punto, too.

Since Youkilis was traded, he's hitting .310/.370/.476 for the White Sox. In that same time frame, Middlebrooks has been hitting .148/.172/.296, then got hurt.
