Crawford unhappy with Henry’s remarks

Craw wishin’...

Last October, Red Sox principal owner John Henry made the surprisingly public admission that he was never in favor of signing free agent Carl Crawford to his landmark seven-year, $142 million deal.

Predictably, Crawford wasn’t happy to hear those remarks.

“I can’t do nothing about what he said,’’ said Crawford Monday after reporting to spring training. “I can just go out and play. It was unfortunate that he feels that way, but there’s nothing for me to say to him but go out and play.

“I wasn’t happy about it. I was a little surprised to hear the comments. Like I said, it’s unfortunate he feels that way. I just wish that those words hadn’t have come up.’‘

Has it been explained why Crawford didn't have his wrist surgery soon after the season ended, instead of waiting until he would have to miss a chunk of the 2012 season? WTF.

Yeah, why are we getting recycled BS instead of that answer?

He's always had a sore wrist apparently. It was only when he began his off-season regiment that it got to the point of being a serious problem.

...as if not being able to stop the bat-head while flailing at pitchs wasn't a problem.

Then he's a dope, and they're dopes for not checking out his chronic injury.

"That's his job to do stuff like that on TV,'' (Valentine) said Crawford. "I kind of understand how that goes. I'm playing for him as a manager and I'm pretty sure he doesn't feel like that way. It's just stuff you have to say when you're on TV, so me and Bobby have no hard feelings.

"We both share a common goal and that's to help the Red Sox win.''

This however is the kind of stuff I like to hear coming out of camp.

They can always trade him to Pittsburgh for A.J. Burnett!! (ducking)

I hope you don't have access to any of my other thoughts...

Sox doctors recommend rehab over surgery for Schilling despite Schilling's personal doctor recommending the opposite.
Ellsbury breaks ribs three times, discovers fractures himself when he goes elsewhere for MRI (I think I got that right)
Lackey and Dice-K (Not sure what the docs did wrong there, but I'm sure I can find something.)
Diagnose Buchholz with a back sprain, turns out to be a fracture.

I've done a little googling and apparently the lead Red Sox physician is this guy.

Snarky comments aside it seems that his wrist basically felt the way it always has for most of the off-season and didn't start feeling worse until he started swinging in January.

I've decided to take a positive view with regard to the Crawford wrist injury-he tried to tough it out but can't admit that now, because of the sh1tstorm that would sweep over the RS's ST, and that's why he was so terrrible at the plate last year. So yes, he's a bit of a dope in that regard, but he sure wouldn't be the first ex-HS football playing MLB'er to try and hide an injury.

With a fixed wrist, Carl will return to his pre-2011 level of production!

Yeah its wishcasting, but its certainly all possibly true.

Whatever. Crawford is a disaster. He is the worst signing in baseball since at least Mike Hampton. At least Hampton could hit.

Crawford might start regularly hitting the ball hard again when his wrist is fully recovered, but the problem is that wrist injuries tend to linger. It seems quite possible or even likely that his wrist won't be back to full strength until next year.

And of course, as many have said here, it's insane that he waited until January to deal with this, jeopardizing his ability to be ready for Opening Day.

#12/Balboni

You don't have to go that far back to find several deals worse than Crawford's deal with Boston. Off the top of my head, I would say the Barry Zito and Vernon Wells deals were both worse. Even more recently, I would say the Jayson Werth, Prince Fielder, and Ryan Howard (doesn't start until this year) deals are worse as well. The Howard contract is Wells-esque if you ask me. Howard hasn't been an all-star type player in a few years, and Philadelphia is paying him Albert Pujols/MVP-type money for his decline phase.

Is the link in number 8 NSFW? [I'm now in trouble with IT security for clicking.] I should have gone with my initial assumption that it was just Dr Nick.
