CSTV: Lasorda upbeat on Hawk future

No…I was expecting some dovetales.

Lasorda, on the steroid policy…You know people say to me, ‘Why did Congress get involved with baseball?’ And I said, ‘I’ll tell you why Congress got involved in baseball. Because this has been documented that there are 500,000 young high-schoolers taking steroids.’ That’s the ones they’re concerned with. We’ve got to stop those youngsters from taking it. These guys up here, they’ve taken it. You can’t do very much about it. But those youngsters down there, those are the ones we have to get to quit taking them. And, I think, we finally got a drug rule that’s going to be very, very effective.

On playing for coach Jack Dahm of Iowa…..I can say this, honestly and truly. If I had a son, I would be sure to send him to play for this guy because he loves what he’s doing, and he’s just not interested on what the players do on the baseball field; he’s just as interested in what they do in the classrooms.

Nice touch, Tommy…nice touch.

I'm sure that Ken Harrelson appreciates Tommy's support.

Everybody does understand that the Baseball World Cup has been around since 1938, right?

What does it mean to be "documented"? Is it documented simply because some crackpot with a typewriter can make a wild guess in print?

The thing I love most about Tommy Lasorda is the fact that he was such a pure, clean spirit, a guy who would never even curse. If you'd like to hear him be that pure spirit, click on this conversation he had on the mound with Doug Rau in the 1977 World Series. It's enlightening, even entertaining.

Is there anything Tommy isn't upbeat about?

Actually, the epidemiological studies on steroid use among high school students clearly show use is at least this high among the 16 million or so high school students. And that's not counting another 250,000-500,000 middle school students. And those are based on self-reported use, which almost certainly underestimates use.

Man, JR, you ain't kiddin'. What an inordinate jackass... I'm continually surprised by the depths Lasorda plumbs, though I really shouldn't be.

Here's a link, for people who don't know what we're cringing about.

IF he had a son? Oh that's right, the dead homo doesn't count....

Jesus, what a swine. With apologies to pigs, both of the providers of bacon and dirty cops.
