Last we heard of Soler rumors, the Cubs seemed to be the heaviest suitor, but the Blue Jays also reportedly worked him out. The Red Sox, Yankees, Phillies, Astros, Orioles, and a few others were mentioned over the winter at different points as having some level of interest. Many more teams will surely be involved in talks before a final contract is signed.
Soler, 20, is said to be a 6-foot-3, 205 pound right fielder, who could also play center, with “explosive bat speed and power potential,” according to Baseball America—which compared him to Royals prospect Bubba Starling and noted Soler may have been a top-five pick in last year’s draft. Baseball Prospectus noted in the preseason that Soler would have been the 39th-ranked prospect in baseball, had he been signed when the list was made.
So we have a raw, young talent on the market with a July 2nd deadline before the new, more strict CBA rules are in place on international signings limits. Expect bidding to commence immediately and a deal to be in place before July 2.

1. McCoy Wilfong for Money Posted: June 02, 2012 at 01:18 PM (#4146401)That means he's what? 24 and 5'11", 240 pounds?
8 G (all starts), 32.1 IP, 7.24 ERA, 46 H, 4 HR, 19 BB, 18 K
Just in case anyone thinks that ERA isn't so bad, he's also given up a whopping 9 unearned runs, giving him 35 runs allowed in 32.1 IP.
Not so good.
Looks like a miniature Giancarlo "Mike" Stanton.
Sounds like a rich man's Dayan Viciedo, who at 23 is putting up a 280/305/505 line and playing a decent LF for the White Sox.
Or Brett Jackson II.
Brilliant!
Alfonso Soleriano?
Cespides as a teammate might be a selling point.
I don't understand the wording of that story. How have the Cubs won the bidding for him, but not agreed on the amount for which he will be signed?
Theo may have assembled an absolutely crappy team this year but he certainly is putting together pieces for a team that might be good at some point in the future.
