Cubs’ Marmol accused of abuse in Dominican

Chicago Cubs pitcher Carlos Marmol has been accused of abuse by lawyers for a 24-year-old woman, according to a report in the Dominican Republic.

Miledys Mejia Cepeda filed a criminal complaint against Marmol, according to the Dominican newspaper website ListinDiario.com. No police charges apparently have been filed.

Marmol’s attorney denied the allegation and said he has filed a counter complaint, accusing the woman of trying to extort and blackmail Marmol, the website reported.

Is he still married? I recall a photo of him surfacing a few years back palling around with a woman, which got attention because the woman had the distinction of not being his wife.

If the abuse in question is physical, I'm sure Marmol's lawyers will argue that even if he wanted to strike the woman, he'd most likely miss.

As long as it was close, the judge would probably still call it a "strike"...

We have no food thread so I'll just put it here that I just gorged myself on Red Wine Braised Short Ribs with Cremini Mushrooms, Brussel Sprout Hash, and Creamy Polenta. Sure it takes 3 hours to make but it only cost me about 10 dollars to make and it was soooo delicious. Tomorrow I'll be making barbecued baby back ribs at home for the very first time. Should be interesting since every time I've ever made ribs I've had the benefit of a full commercial kitchen at my disposal complete with a smoker. After that I'll make Apple Brined Pork Porterhouses with Apple-Yukon Gold Potato Hash, sauteed spinach, and a Maple Syrup Sauce on Saturday. That is all.

I made a terrific bolognese sauce this week and I even used ground pork and turkey sausage to appease certain others in this household who are trying to 'count' points. Of course, the homemade beef stock deserves some of the credit. Making your own stock always pays dividends. I will never make a risotto again without homemade stock, otherwise its too much effort to make a dish that simply doesn't taste superb.

I had a...McRib yesterday.

I'm so ashamed.

Ribs are in the oven now and should be done around dinner time. Can't wait

A little disappointed with the ribs. Used a rub from a local guy in Virginia Beach and used a mop sauce from Rocklands. Normally I like Rocklands so I went with their sauce but I normally get brisket from them and for my tastes it didn't really work for me on my ribs. The rub was either very mild or I didn't put enough on the ribs because I didn't really notice the rub. For my next batch I bought some Yardbirds and some other rubs and sauces to try.

Tonight's the brined pork porterhouse and after that I probably won't be able to move for a few days.
