Cubs need to score runs to win!

What else is there to talk about? I’ll note that in scoring, the Cubs were #2 NL in 2nd half 2016, #2 for all of 2017 (Colorado) and #1 (by a lot) for 2nd half 2017. I’d love even more but more of the same is fine with me.

What about preventing runs? I daresay the Cubs also need to prevent runs to win.

We may be on to something here.

I think they actually need to start playing games in order to have a chance to win.

The only winning move is not to play.

If the Cubs have a problem it's more run prevention than scoring. But they don't really have a problem.

My Reds, however, need to prevent runs to win - a little above average on offense, dead last in run prevention. And considering how well regarded their defense is, by "run prevention" I mean pitching.

Well, they can't get worse from where they were last year. Can they? </shellshocked Reds fan>

In the article's defense, the basic premise is that since the Cubs didn't trade position players for pitching and haven't landed a big FA starter, then the run prevention is heading the wrong way so the offense needs to step it up.

Now, what is this, an attempt at the first Reds' hijack in BBTF history? That might be the most exciting thing to happen this offseason.

Cubs just signed Darvish. $150M/6yrs with opt outs.

126, not 150. Incentives could get it up to that. Robothal quickly corrected himself on the total.

I'm really looking forward to watching Darvish pitch for the next few years. 37-year-old Darvish...maybe not so much.

Sure, but that deal is worth it. It's easy to eat that deal at the end if necessary. I'm excited for this season to get underway.

There are apparently opt-outs, though I haven’t seen details. Three years would make sense. It would lock down the entire rotation for 2018-20.

And if it’s three years, this is a hell of a deal for the Cubs.

Good reasonable deal, now that the market has been set, I expect Cobb, Lynn and Arrieta to be signed within the week.

Let's hope this helps prevent runs

$126M/6yrs is a freaking steal, IMHO. Cubs are going to give the Dodgers a really good run for their money in the NLCS this October.

I just happy he's off the market so Cashman can't do something stupid.

I think it's a fair deal, but not one I'd want my team to sign.

Cubs need to score runs to win!

That would help, yes.
