Cubs sign Almora for $3.9 million

I wonder if this makes Alfonso Soriano available.

The Chicago Cubs have reached agreement with first-round draft pick Albert Almora, who receives a $3.9 million bonus….

Almora, a high school outfielder, had a scholarship offer to the University of Miami. He was the last of the Cubs’ top 20 draft picks to sign, and thus completes the bulk of Jason McLeod’s first draft class.

The No. 6 overall pick was slotted at $3.25 million, but the Cubs went over slot, giving him $650,000. Baseball America reported the bonus put the Cubs $373,800 above the allotted pool bonus total, making them suject to a slight tax of $280,350.

Question: Could Almora indemnify the Cubs for the tax?

I'm sure Boreass will donate his fee back to the Cubs. He's that kind of guy.

Where does the tax money go? To teams that stayed under budget?

No one else does, either -- his 'do' makes me think it probably just rots off once each follicle reaches a certain length.

Yeah, Boras, that guy, helping his clients sign lucrative deals, what a jerk!
