Cubs Sweep Brewers

Several people ‘round these parts have complained lately about all the attention the sports media has given the Favre in the middle of baseball season.  I imagine Ned Yost is thrilled about that right now.

The Brewers shouldn't have let Favre sign with the Phillies.
Talk about a methodical and ruthless domination by the Cubs.
The Cubbies are the class of the NL, no ifs, whens and buts.

Gagne's probably looking a suspension for throwing behind Edmonds on a 3-0 pitch (Edmonds had homered a couple of times earlier).

I never would've taken any odds on Brewers sweeping 4 at STL, followed by getting swept at home by CHC less than a week later.

I keep harping on this, but I want to know if any team's ever lost an entire 5+ game lead to a team and gained all of it back within a span of 2 weeks. The Cubs led the Brewers by 5 at the break, were tied with them as of this past Sunday morning, and now lead them by 5 again. This has been quite a roller coaster ride, for a team that couldn't score to save its life in the friggin' JuiceBox against the likes of Scuffy Moehler and Wandy Rodriguez.

It is a horrible time to be hosting four-game series against your divisional foes if you're an NL Central contender, it seems.

So the Brewers go into Wrigley, where the Cubs are dominant, twice and win both series.
So the Brewers host Chicago and get swept, despite the Cubs' road woes.

Go figure.

It's all about the walks.

If the Cubs keep this up, this will be the first Cubs team since 1984 to lead the league in team BBs. I think every Cub fan on this board has been harping on it since the old pre-registration primer days... this team's offensive problems have always revolved around their complete refusal to work counts and draw walks. Hell, even Ron Santo today was talking about it late in the game today.

Add that to that a very strong front four, a solid bullpen (if Lou would quit falling in love with 2 guys at a time and running them into the ground) - this is the best Cubs team of my lifetime - including the 84 team (this edition's bullpen is much better, top to bottom).

This series makes me forget about Burnitz's sweep-suits stunt he pulled after the Brewers swept the 1st place Cubs at Wrigley in July 2001.

"...and home runs from Burnitz, Jose Hernandez and Tyler Houston."

Gaah! Former Cubs/Former Brewers memory attack!

thank you, my failure to link properly could be likened to the Brewers [________}.

You may recall, they went on a rotten stretch of miserable losses in Pittsburgh and elsewhere after donning those suits. They went 5-22 after the sweep of the Cubs.
