1. Justin T is expanding the aperture of awareness Posted: November 05, 2012 at 07:52 PM (#4293795)Perhaps John Calvin was right about a vengeful God.
I thought the Doug Glanville idea somebody presented a couple of weeks ago was interesting but unlikely. It's too bad it didn't turn into anything.
Please no Sutcliffe. Cubs fans have been beaten down enough.
What if Len was ONE OF US?
Just a dork like ONE OF US
Impossible. Len's a video girl.
If it's Sutcliffe, I will not watch a Cubs broadcast for the entire time he is there and probably a good 10 years thereafter just to make sure he's not coming back. Sutcliffe is my most-loathed broadcaster and I've never even had to hear him that often. (Mark Grace is another bad one.)
they steal our sunshine
He's got a voice for mime. He can't say in 50 words what could be said in 25. He never says anything that isn't a cliche. He does not prepare. Ever.
His only value is that once every few broadcasts he does point out some technical bit about hitting.
I can't believe someone made that joke. I can't believe that I was thinking the same thing. None of the candidates are inspiring, they need more, more, more.
Anyway, another voice against Sutcliffe - he is The Worst. Worse than Grace, worse than Hawk, worse than all the rest. He is the Bill Walton of MLB. Actually, he might be the Todd Christiansen of MLB. No team's fans deserve that.
I second the call to give Glanville a shot. I don't know if he's interested, and I've never heard him do a game, but his writing and his studio work show all the qualities of a really good analyst.
Hollandsworth ... eh. I hear him a few times a week on MLB radio; I don't find him particularly well informed or insightful and find he has, to a much lesser extent, a little bit of the Plesac parody thing going too. Given that he wears on me on an occasional basis, I fear how I would feel about him on a full season basis.
Sarge ... I haven't heard him a lot, but from what I have heard ... no.
I guess that leaves Karros as the best of the bunch. He seems fine in the national broadcasts and I think I'd be ok with him. But like UCCF said, let's expand the search a little bit. Hopefully Len will have a large amount of input here; I have enough faith in his judgement that if he's at all involved in the process, I'll be reasonably happy with the result.
I think a Choi-Villanueva-Kasper booth would probably be interesting.
Again. And again. And again. :-)
OK, Dennis Miller was worse than Sutcliffe.
I wonder if MGL is available. :-)
Walt, as you are one of the most mild-mannered Primates, it's good to see you indulge some first class snark.
