Curt Schilling: Rhode Island Governor A ‘Dunce Of Epic Proportions’

Maybe this is an endearing compliment? Schilling after all played with “The Idiots.”

Schilling, who won a World Series with the Arizona Diamondbacks and then two with the Boston Red Sox, criticized independent Gov. Lincoln Chafee in a Saturday exchange on Twitter about the collapse of 38 Studios, which got a $75 million loan guarantee from the state in 2010.

Schilling tweeted that “if the state loses money it’s because the Governor is a dunce of epic proportions, nothing I can do about that.”

In follow-up tweets on Monday, Schilling also called the governor a “buffoon” and called the prospect of him getting re-elected in 2014 “terrifying.”

Chafee told WPRO-AM that Schilling’s comments were “regretful.”

Schilling’s company laid off all its employees in May and filed for bankruptcy in June. Schilling had earlier blamed Chafee for public comments he made about the firm’s solvency, accusing him of having an “agenda.”

I look forward to Posnanski's biography.

Curt Schilling: Rhode Island Governor A ‘Dunce Of Epic Proportions’

Schilling added in defense of his comment, "Chafee lost his family's fortune chasing a video game fantasy. Nuff said."

I have to agree with Curt, only a dunce would put that much taxpayer money into a gaming company with no track record.

This whole story reminds me of the Batman: TAS episode where Bruce Wayne is desperate to acquire a video game company so he can move it to Gotham and create some tech jobs there. Maybe Rhode Island figured that if moving a video game company to town was Batman's business strategy, it was surely good enough for them.

I believe that was the brain child of his predecessor.

Yes, the loan was already in place when Chafee took office (and he was against it, anyway).

Yes, but wasn't that dunce Gov. Donald Carcieri?

EDIT: Right, you guys covered that.

At some point, Curt may want to consider shutting the hell up.

It doesn't seem like a good idea to antagonize the governor while you're being investigated for fraud or whatever. If Chafee wasn't going after Schilling before, he probably will now.

You wouldn't say that to Repoz's face.

Shutting the hell up might lead to introspection, which is very dangerous to a conservative. He's better off continuing to yell that everything is everyone else's fault, and that he's a holy martyr for the cause of the free market.

Isn't Lincoln Chafee a pretty reasonable, middle of the road guy for a pol? Schilling can't win this one, I think, and I am confident on reflection he'll decide discretion is the better part of valor.

As Ron White says, "I had the right to remain silent, I just didn't have the ability".

Schilling has never decided discretion is the better part of anything!

Maybe Schilling knows he can't win and just wants to go down fighting rather than meekly skulking away from the scene. Like all his idols from WWII and Lord of the Rings would have done.

Chaffee is an independent (former moderate Republican ousted in the primaries by conservatives). But his approval ratings are in the toilet. If the Dems prop up a reasonable candidate in 2014, I'm guessing Chaffee is cooked.

If they can avoid getting their candidate endorsed by Schilling.

I don't know about that. He might have decided that discretion is the better part of America-hating secret Muslim death panel terrorist commieism, or something like that.

Is there a chance Schilling's idiotic bloviating will keep him out of the Hall? It's a crowded ballot and he seems like he's on the borderline anyway with the BBWAA types.
