D-Backs waiting for Kuroda on offer

The Diamondbacks have extended an offer to right-hander Hiroki Kuroda and are waiting to hear back from the Japanese free agent.

General Manager Josh Byrnes would not divulge details of the offer, but Kuroda could command a deal worth up to $10 million a year for at least three years.

The Diamondbacks made the offer about 10 days ago, Byrnes said.

According to one poster at DBBP, This Japanese Site says the offer is for 3/27

Anyone got an opinion on this guy? Is he healthy? His career numbers show a 2.82 K/B ratio and about a hit an inning.

He pitches in a bandbox

Cool...so the HR rate, which looked slightly high, is nothing to worry about then.

Does he have a deceptive delivery?

This clip appears to be from an allstar game.

Oh, he has a shuuto. You're going down, Mr. Besuboru.

If he's a guy who got by on his velocity in Japan, I'm definitely skeptical about his chances in the the majors. He doesn't look sneaky in that video.

I think he's a sinkerballer.

Yeah...it looked like his FB was about 88-90 and had downward movement. (146 KM is 90 MPH)

He looks like a guy that gets groundballs, doesn't walk many guys at all, and gets a fair share of K's, but is not a strikeout pitcher. Does anyone know where to find GB/FB rates for Japanese pitchers?

Well anyway...if the Mariners are interested in him, and it's been rumored the Dodgers are on Kuroda's wish list....then he probably won't sign with the D Backs anyway, not if those teams make him an offer. But not a bad move by Byrnes. If he gets him, it's probably a pretty good price. If he doesn't, at least he drove the price up for the competition.

Any other videos of him floating around? I'm curious if those high pitches were just an All-Star Game thing.
