Daily Herald: Suburban Chicago’s Information Source

He is still only 21. It’s better for him to go down and play regular than sit on the bench with Chicago. Worse still would be for him to play regular in Chicago and be sent down at the end of April with a .170 batting average and no confidence.

IF Chicago keeps Patterson in the bigs AND plays him regularly AND he holds his own, then that would be ideal. However, how long will Baylor allow his future star to struggle? What good does it do for Patterson to stay in the big leagues and aspire to get to the Mendoza line? I say none. If he can manage a .250 average then I agree with having him stay with the Cubs 100%. If Patterson struggles, the Cubs will be walking a fine line between getting his feet wet and damaging his psyche.
