Dale Sveum shot by Robin Yount

Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum was accidentally hit in the ear with shrapnel while hunting this offseason with Hall of Famer Robin Yount.

The two were hunting quail in Arizona when Yount bagged a bird, but also Sveum.

Yount took advice on bagging game from Cheney, rather than Grace.

That's what you get when you bump a legend to the outfield. If I'm Ernest Riles, I'm sleeping with one eye open right about now.

Surprised they weren't hunting Deer. Rob Deer.

And here I clicked the link expecting to see a portrait of Sveum.

Be vewy, vewy quiet. I'm hunting utility infielders. Heh heh heh heh heh.

Sveum said he didn't receive stitches but did refer to Yount as former vice president Dick Cheney, who famously shot a friend while hunting.

it's not entirely analogous to the cheney shooting until sveum apologized to young for getting shot.

Would it have killed them to take Casey Coleman along on the trip?

Best Cubs announcement of the offseason so far. Something like "great trade, who'd we get?" pops into my mind upon reading the headline.

I'm waiting for Dale Sveum to publicly apologize for getting shot.

"Dale Sveum shot by Robin Yount" and "Jeff Conine wants Hall of Fame to be clean" both sound like they were written by the Random Peter Gammons Generator site.

Another headline mistaken for an Onion article. We seem to be seeing a lot of these lately.

Apologies for screwing up the title card. The first two lines should have been block quote.

Clearly, the error lies with the site developer and not the user

The Yankees just arranged for Alex Rodriguez to go on a hunting trip with Yount.

dale stating that he has the shotgun spray fall on him regularly is disconcerting. i hunted for decades with a shotgun and always followed the simple but effective safety protocols. these guys are trying to cover too much ground per walk thru is my guess

boooo dale and robin. booooo. bad approach. unsafe.

Gorman Thomas would have missed Sveum with the first few shots and then blasted him into Canada when he finally connected.

I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed that site, and amazingly it's still up to date:

That there is a flaw in Dayton Moore's brillient team, it is in not quite being able to truly land a C.J. Wilson (who is to Los Angeles sportswriters what lead singer Alexander Narveson was to Billy And The Mentioning, except that he, like Jean Segura with his melon baller, has a better chance of a post-career career, in his case becoming an insurance agent) to anchor a staff that would otherwise rival only that of the Rays with Alex Colome, and though sources tell us that Ned Yost is working harder than anyone anywhere (including the entire city of Alexandria) with Aaron Crow to stop being so stuck-up, the Royals still hold out hope for Luke Hochevar to mature, and Ryan Verdugo.

Ubaldo Jimenez apologized for the eight transgressions involving youth hostels, which came to light after he crashed his oil tanker into a tree and had to be pried loose from the wreckage with a sink by Lonnie Chisenhall.

Wow, you're right:

Wil Nieves sings of shields, hiding daily all the fields; a round man who wants no otters, because his soul is filled with waters.

Chris Young's status as a free agent has been complicated by rumors that he has become a merry hat.

Jonny Venters, whose favorite clubhouse downtime activity is making up anagrams, will have a lot of time to think up some more (his favorite for "Billy Wagner" is "Win grey ball"), after injuring his index finger in a freak collision with a shrimp in one of the biggest airport terminals in Atlanta, and will have to hope he isn't Wally Pipped when his innings are taken by Mike Minor, who is feeling very tame right now because of his rocking chair, and Brandon Beachy.

The Athletics had interest in dealing for Dustin Ackley until they learned he will miss eight months after crashing his boat into a tree. Billy Beane may now inquire about D.J. Mitchell, who pried Ackley loose from the wreckage with a pie, because that's just how loud he is.

Yount shot Sveum only after Molitor tried to snort him.

not just that, but they likely had little strategy between themselves in terms of protocol. know your target and beyond and this doesn't happen.

Some 1 told me to come to this thread Al whats the big deal Yount shoots Sveum this is no thing new. Hall of Aimers have been trying to shoot bad manganers since Hector was a Pup. Half the time I would go to the Cell back in the day and Tom Seaver would be sitting outside the clubhouse trying to get a clear shot at Ozzie Guillen. Wed travel to Cleve. and youd see Bob Feller filing little crosses into the tips of his bullets to use on Eric Wedge. My favorite was going duck hunting up in Wisc. with AJ 1 summer and next thing you know Ned Yost is running like hell across a clearing from Henry Aaron chasing him in a Sherman Tank. Al you have no idea what goes on in the off seizon.

Although the "former vice president" and "Cheney" parts were merely implied...

Amazing stuff from the Gammons generator:
Luis Perez, twisted thang, who used to, throw a nutmegsmooth-ivory knuckle-curve, and break seventwonine batsjustlikethat, d'oh. He was a greedy man, and what i want to know is, how do you like this self-reliance now, Toronto.

Considering Sveum is the Cubs' manager, perhaps Yount felt merciful?

And then Rick Dempsey removed his wet costume, collected the briefcase, and delivered the negatives to Epstein.
