Dallas Morning News: Rangers’ Tejeda shows how it’s done

The Rangers have seen enough of Edinson Volquez, the prospect. They decided to stage an intervention before he turns into another in a long line of Rangers pitching busts.

Manager Buck Showalter, pitching coach Mark Connor and bullpen coach Dom Chiti spent a long time behind closed doors with Volquez on Tuesday afternoon, less than 24 hours after the Los Angeles Angels became the most recent opponent to batter him.

The purpose of the meeting was to lay out an off-season plan to get Volquez into the pitching picture for 2007 because, right now, he’s probably out of the frame.

“I think he knows the way he has pitched here is not going to be good enough,” Showalter said. “The world is full of guys who have failed up here some. At some point, the good ones will grasp it. I think he will grasp it.”
...
Showalter said he saw no benefit to running Volquez to the mound Sunday. He’s 1-6 with a 7.29 ERA; he’s 1-10 with a 9.20 ERA in his brief career….  Volquez has had significant trouble with walks at Triple-A and in the majors this season. And when he’s thrown strikes, they’ve been extremely hittable.

How can you expect consistency from a guy who doesn’t keep the same name more than a year or two?  :P
First he was Julio Reyes (then he got age-gated), then Edison Volquez, now “Edinson”.

He should try "Juan Marichal".
