Dan Patrick on “The Price is Right”?!?

Be sure to spay or neuter ... Jay Crawford, Harold Reynolds and Woody Paige?

Dan Patrick of ESPN has been contacted by the producers of the game show The Price is Right in an effort to see if the ESPN television and radio personality would be interested in hosting the show. Auditions are being held to replace retired host Bob Barker, and Patrick might be on a short list to audition.

It’s gotta be the end of the world.

Best Regards

John

Rick Reilly and Keith Olbermann posing around the prizes in the showcase showdown? I can see Olbermann cutting the contestant off with, "you know Dan, many of these prizes were made in sweatshops in a 3rd World country."

why do you sound surprised?

as a sportscaster, Dan Patrick has the persona of a game show host
   3. Banta Posted: June 29, 2007 at 05:23 PM (#2422260)
They need someone considerably more sweet than Dan Patrick.

Although, this is much better than the Rosie O'Donnell rumor a friend of mine told me the other day. My response was "I'd rather have her in charge of all the world's nuclear weapons than host the Price is Right."

I wonder which scenario would lead to the end of the world faster...

Does anyone seriously think Patrick is going to look anything but annoyed as an overweight Midwestern woman jumps up and down next to him, tries to kiss him, and then reaches into his pocket for $100? Does anyone think Patrick can describe the rules of Plinko without sounding like he's putting air-quotes around all of it?
   5. joker24 Posted: June 29, 2007 at 05:34 PM (#2422279)
No, this was the potential coming of the end of days:

Fixed.

Just sign Richard Karn and be done with it.
   8. JMM Posted: June 29, 2007 at 06:12 PM (#2422376)
Or J. Peterman.
   9. Kurt Posted: June 29, 2007 at 06:26 PM (#2422404)
Isn't J. Peterman still hosting Family Feud?
   10. Banta Posted: June 29, 2007 at 06:49 PM (#2422451)
I'm ok with Richard Karn. Or J. Peterman.

Or Louie Anderson!

Screw Dan Patrick, someone needs to get Kenny Maine his own daily hour-long t.v. show.
   12. Kurt Posted: June 29, 2007 at 07:06 PM (#2422471)
Richard Karn seemed like a ridiculous suggestion, until I realized I was mixing him up with Richard Kind.

I'd say the 12:35 slot on NBC opens up in two years, but the serious rumor is they're going with Jimmy Fallon. I guess having two good late night shows is something NBC cannot abide. Carson Daly would be a less sucky choice than Jimmy Fallon.

If Gary Coleman doesn't host TPIR, they're missing a bet.

That's unpossible. Steve Garvey would be a less sucky choice than Carson Daly. He's that bad.
   16. Banta Posted: June 29, 2007 at 07:26 PM (#2422512)
I don't think Carson Daly is that bad, it's just that he brings nothing to the table. At all. He doesn't actively piss me off, anyway, but I think that's because he seems like a decent guy, just overmatched as a host of anything but TRL.

1) Dan Patrick still works at ESPN?
2) The Price is Right is still on the air?
3) Jimmy Fallon?

They definitely need to sign Jonathan Lipnicki before he becomes too expensive. The Big Lip's star continues to rise.
   19. Completely Wayne Posted: June 29, 2007 at 09:40 PM (#2422746)
Richard Karn would be a fantastic choice - he was as good and natural a host as I've ever seen for a game show when he was on Family Feud. I'm not clear on what the circumstances surrounding his leaving that show were though.

Todd Bridges in Rod Roddy's wardrobe? Sold!

Put Patrick on the Price is Right. Good riddance! After the first week, we won't hear from him again.
   22. Foster Posted: June 29, 2007 at 11:00 PM (#2422820)
Two suggestions:

Gandolfini.

Crispin Glover.

Better yet, both as co-hosts.
   23. zonk Posted: June 29, 2007 at 11:10 PM (#2422838)
I think either Joe Mogran or John Kruk would be WONDERFUL choices... 'course, I watch a lot of baseball and haven't seen TPIR since I was 10.
   24. MikeinMI Posted: June 29, 2007 at 11:49 PM (#2422980)
I think Steve Buscemi would be a good choice.

That cracked me up trying to picture it. Just give the gig to Stuart Scott. He seems like he'd be more enjoyable than Dan Patrick.

Tom Bergeron.

End of story.

I'll watch anything with Bruce Willis.

I like Foster's ideas.

Or John Stamos, now that his drug-fueled Australian rampage may damage his ER comeback.

Or a furiously self-righteous Isiah Washington.

They should go with a host who'll call a contestant a ####### idiot when they guess $400 for a bar of soap.

Kramer
   30. Richard Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:34 AM (#2423655)
If they can't get Buscemi, Philip Seymour Hoffman would be a decent choice. He's very versatile.

Juliette Lewis. You ever see her on one of those VH1 shows? Comedy gold. She'd be picking up the Turtle Wax and going "Do they really use turtles to make this? That's not right."

Yes, exactly. He comes across as very friendly, unforced, intelligent, and endearing. I'd even say he'd be better than Bob Barker. And to top it off, I'd love to hear Craig Ferguson on The Late Late Show tease "Al Borland" in his monologues.

edit: In all seriousness, count me among those on the Richard Karn bandwagon.

I'm continually disappointed that Andy Richter doesn't get regular work. Can he host?
   40. H_Vaughn08 Posted: June 30, 2007 at 05:33 PM (#2423847)
Chris Elliott?

Jason Alexander?

Magic Johnson?

/love the Richter, Glover, Buscemi and Gandolfini suggestions

How have you managed to avoid the constant reminders of Bob Barker's retirement?

Anything that gets Jimmy Fallon to stop making movies is fine with me.
