David Ortiz ‘humiliated’ and ‘embarrassed’ by offseason – USATODAY.com

He may have 400 homers but he doesn’t sound content.

Last season, his ninth as the Red Sox’s designated hitter, Ortiz batted .309 with 29 homers, 96 RBI and a .953 OPS but could not persuade the club to give him a multiyear deal. He could have entered the free agent market but instead accepted Boston’s offer of arbitration.
“It was humiliating. There’s no reason a guy like me should go through that,” he said. “All I was looking for was two years, at the same salary ($12.5 million).
“They ended up giving me $3 million more than that (actually $2.025 million), and look at my numbers this year. Tell me if they wouldn’t have been better off.
