Dayton Daily News: Rockies pound Bailey, Reds bats quiet in 5-1 loss

Homer Bailey was channeling Kip Wells, apparently.

The Colorado Rockies ... pounded 16 hits, 15 off Reds starter Homer Bailey in 4 2/3 innings en route to a 5-1 victory.
...
Colorado is on a Rocky Mountain High, without John Denver. They have needed no help while going 8-1 since the All-Star break, getting 11 or more hits in seven straight games and outscoring the opposition 65-32.

Bailey was a fast-deflating punching bag on this night, giving up in successive innings two, two, two, three and six hits — 14 more than the Reds had over the same span.
...
The Rockies pounded Bailey for 14 singles and one double, the most hits against a Reds pitcher since Jimmy Anderson gave up 15 against St. Louis on June 26, 2003.

So is Homer Bailey officially a "bust" yet? For a guy who was being touted as the next can't-miss thing three years ago, he's certainly disappointed.

It's interesting how frequently Reds prospects crop up among those getting huge amounts of hype from the national media. Bailey, Bruce, Votto and Cueto just in the past year or so. They must have some good PR people with contacts here and there.

Troy Tulowitzki is now hitting .522 since coming off the DL. Man, did they ever need that.

Bruce, Cueto, and Votto are worth it. This is a practice season for them. Bailey on the other hand, who knows? He looks like he's pitching with three different mechanical stops out of the wind-up. He's all ######-up. Great arm, and bad rep on attitude. The previous two starts were impressive and showed some of that great promise and fire. Tonight, not so much. A bust at 22? Not yet.

Pretty soon his BA will be high enough for other pitchers to start throwing at him

I have seen Bailey pitch three times. I am ready to try him as a set-up guy.
