Kind of a blando interview (Moore must have run for student government or something given the emptiness of many of his answers) but two interesting bits:

1) Good to see him give an unsolicited positive mention of Marcus Giles. Saying he's "fearless" may not mean much, but the fact that he was at least mentioned in a good light indicates that the Braves aren't writing him off like many of us seem to fear.

2) Interesting point on college pitchers. It just doesn't occur to me very often that the Braves are always at the bottom of the draft order and that as a result there simply aren't as many sure things down there. Given that the Braves are determined to favor pitchers over hitters (and I'm not complaining, because it's worked so far) it makes sense for them to take chances on top high schoolers rather than second tier college pitchers.

The mention of Giles pleased me too, though it doesn't give me much hope at the major league level. Glenn Hubbard last year spoke positively about Giles during the season, August or September, and said he needed more playing time (said same also about Wes Helms in the same sentence, and hey, when you're playing Vinny at 3B, Helms suddenly looks good).

The thing is, what these things tell me is that there's a disconnect between the opinions of those who saw him play in the minors - Moore and Hubbard (who helped him a lot with his fielding in the minors), and even maybe John Schuerholz, who seems to trust his scouts; and Bobby cox, who does not seem at all impressed, and was willing to bench Marcus for Keith Lockhart and then Mark DeRosa after one bad skid of less than a week in May last year.

cox values defense, and clearly thinks little of Giles' glove. It may be that simple, or there may be some personality clash between Giles fiery competitiveness (that fearlessness) and cox's expectations of rookies to shut up and just play.
