Deadspin: Our Interview With Harold Reynolds

Defamer y Defamer?

Do you still talk with any of the guys from the show?

Kurkjian and Peter (Gammons) have called, and I speak with them a lot. Ravech has tried to contact me a couple of times. The main people I worked with were Peter, Karl, Krukie and occasionally Kurkjian, and everybody’s contacted me except for Kruk. I’m not gonna sit here and slam him, though.

I think what has happened with most of the people at ESPN is, because of the lawsuit, a lot of people are afraid to get in touch with me. It’s not that they don’t like me. I understand.

i'm shocked - shocked - that he thinks the ny post call was an 'ambush'.

is harold reynolds a good guy? he comes across as one in this piece...

It's tough to turn it (baseball tonight) on and see the show

that's partly because harold's not on it but more because of the people who ARE on it.

and although sexual harassment classes shouldn't be necessary...espn SHOULD have been offering one. many corporations which had little / no complaints in that area made them mandatory for all employees...

Goodness, Baseball Tonight is horrible without Harold Renolds. There's not another ex-player in their bullpen (Kruk, Martinez, Vina, etc.) who is as savvy as Reynolds without a track record or failures (Phillips). Kirkjian isn't bad, neither is Gammons, but their exposure is limited. Ravech is better when he does highlights, then hands off to the others for analysis. Morgan and Miller could be useful, but I personally like them as Sunday Night Baseball's team.

Before this whole business, we never got the impression that you were one of the least popular ESPN broadcasters; there wasn't a site called "Fire Harold Reynolds" or anything. People like Kruk and Berman get it a lot worse than you ever did.

Man, you guys just kill Chris. Leather? Is that what it is? You're with leather?

Nice.

I was never a huge fan of reynolds, but he was light years better than Kruk etc.

Orestes Destrade was good in the booth, but since he moved to BBTN, he is bland and boring.

Orel Hershiser is somewhat interesting, but the contortions he makes with his face while speaking make me laugh.

My whole life, I was the guy who loved everybody, hugged everybody

Ah ha!

there wasn't a site called "Fire Harold Reynolds"

Oh really?
   7. Big Train Posted: June 18, 2007 at 07:54 PM (#2408244)
Yeah, Orel is pretty good. but doesn't he do mostly booth work? Eric Young could be good, I think, but his voice makes me want to punch him, and John Kruk.

Heh. No one wants to take Ravech's calls.

ESPN has mandatory classes about sexual harassment, and did while Reynolds was an employee. I can't verify whether he actually went, but he should have.

It sounds like HR thinks he fell through the cracks while everyone else had training.

Well, he didn't need training in sexual harassment, obviously.
   12. bob gee Posted: June 18, 2007 at 09:36 PM (#2408342)
thanks for posting that, erik. were the classes for new hires only, or all employees?
   13. Repoz Posted: June 18, 2007 at 09:52 PM (#2408352)
I had to take a class in sexual harrassment as part of my management training. Scared the bejeesus out of me.

That was nothing...I had to take a class in sexual management as part of my harrassment training. Confused the bejeesus out of me.
   14. TVerik Posted: June 18, 2007 at 09:54 PM (#2408354)
All employees. I predated them, as did others. But they made us all go.
   15. CrosbyBird Posted: June 18, 2007 at 09:58 PM (#2408359)
I took one sexual harassment class when I summered at a white shoe firm in NYC. (No, it wasn't a summer associate position and my grades were not nearly good enough to have a shot returning there.)

I don't know what's more frightening: the things they felt necessary to clarify that were sexual harassment, or the few minor things that could be construed as sexual harassment.

This, of course, is the best sexual harassment video ever. Note that it is extremely inappropriate for work, particularly if you work with someone that does not have a sense of humor about sexual harassment.

No wonder they sent the predators to the course.

I had to take a class when I was at Skadden. I got the impression that somebody had scared the lead partner with threats of litigation, so we all had to waste a half day learning we shouldn't look down the secretaries' shirts. Not even if they're asking for it.

"Eric Young could be good, I think, but his voice makes me want to punch him..."

I could be Brad Pitt if I didn't look like Judd Hirsch on a bad day with no hair.

That's good, but I like this one, too.

Eric Young could be good, I think, but his voice makes me want to punch him...

If you want to die of alcohol poisoning, play the Eric Young drinking game. All you do is take a tiny sip of beer every time EY prefaces his comments with, "I tell you what..." I once heard him use the phrase three times in a single sentence.

But hey, at least he won't hug anyone at work. Good hire, ESPN!
