Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard Shares ‘Ichiro’ Baseball Anthem

I’m so saccharinsed out…I just ring-tossed my last Kalin Twins 45 into an unsuspecting terlet!

Ben Gibbard wants to say thanks to Ichiro Suzuki.

The Seattle Mariners right fielder was traded to the New York Yankees on Monday after a 12-year-run, prompting the Pacific Northwest indie rocker to share a song dubbed “Ichiro’s Theme.”

“I wrote this a few years ago,” the Death Cab for Cutie frontman wrote, posting the track on his Soundcloud page. “Today seems like the best day to let you all hear it. Thank you, Ichiro.”

The retro-tinged rock track pays homage to the outfielder’s base-stealing skills and baseball prowess: “At any given moment, he could completely blow your mind,” Gibbard sings. “So don’t you take your eye off Ichiro.”

Reasonably sure Gibbard sang backup for Baseball Project's Ichiro song, "Ichiro goes to the Moon".

This was bound to happen when the Yankees failed to illuminate the "no" on their vacancy sign.
