Baseball Primer Newsblog— The Best News Links from the Baseball Newsstand
Saturday, June 09, 2012
It’s June, so I’m posting my annual update to the blog and shamelessly cross-promoting. ‘Cause I can.
Simmons has been touted as a defensive wizard since becoming a full time position player. His performance to date is in line with expectations and scouting reports. (His early bat has been an unexpected plus.) In the next few months, expect the guys at the top of that list to benefit significantly from going from a terrible defensive SS to a true defensive asset in that hole. Note that in addition to infamous sinker-baller Tim Hudson, all three of the shut-down relievers in the pen - Kimbrel, Venters and O’Flaherty - induce grounders when they’re not striking batters out.

1. Rickey Fredonia Fudge Duckery Precious Twiddle Posted: June 10, 2012 at 11:36 AM (#4152898)cuz it give MY team a better chance of winning. he reminded me of angel sanchez at short, which is not a compliment.
and i remember BITGOD when all KINDS of astros fans were screaming like heck to get rid of adam everett cuz he couldn't hit like arod/nomah but nobody seemed to notice that the ground ball pitchers did much worse when mark loretta or jose vizcaino or miguel tejada played short.
still, the best 2 SS i've seen in the past 10 years are adam everett and brendan ryan and neither is getting any GG because of their batting average

you blog might get more traffic if you did stuff like, you know, WRITE in it
He usually does, but not in this case. Pastornicky has a .605 OPS for the season and a 1.089 OPS vs. Houston.
Granted, his fielding probably sucked against them too.
I totally posted a SECOND TIME. TWO TIMES IN A MONTH!
...however this was obviously not the best of developmental moves if he was going to be demoted after 150 at bats. I don't know how you could have expected him to do anything but struggle given he was 22 and a non blue-chipper with only 27 games above AAA coming into the season. While the Braves had their legitimate reasons (their only concern was Simmons' development not Pastornicky's), that doesn't make it any easier for Pastornicky.
