Dempster: Cubs should bring back Quade

Bring back? I’m still stuck with that quadawful Jan Langosz Orchestra & Mandolins “Forever With Napali” LP!

While most players have lauded the job Mike Quade has done since stepping in for Lou Piniella for the final 37 games, Ryan Dempster took it one step further on Tuesday after the Cubs 5-2 win over San Diego.

Dempster, who notched his 15th win with seven strong innings, became the first Cubs player to outwardly endorse Quade for the job in 2011.

“He’s been very upfront, very honest with all of us,” Dempster said. “He’s been tremendously supportive, he’s given us a lot of confidence to go out there. What he’s done for the bullpen- those guys have really stepped up and he’s believed in them.

“He’s done a great job and I hope that he’s here longer than just this year. I hope he’s managing for us next year because he deserves it. He’s done everything they’ve asked, and everyone in here really likes him.”

If nothing else, I haven't seen him do anything stupid. He appears to pay attention.

Amazingly, this is probably the most important qualification for a potential manager. "Just don't #### up, son."

I haven't watched many games, but from what I've seen, it seems like they've cut down a bit on the errors and mental mistakes.

I don't know how much of that you can attribute to Quade, but it is what it is.

Plus, he looks a bit like Freddy Kreuger.

Unless they're going to hire me (or Earl Weaver, that would be cool! or bring back the College of Coaches!), I'm fine if they bring back Quade. I have no idea if he'll be any good but I don't see heaps of guys out there that I'd rather see in the job. No reason he can't be the next Joe Maddon. Well, no reason other than the Cubs aging core and general lack of talent.

Kwaid or Kwahday?

Kwaid or Kwahday?

I've heard it "Kwahday" and "Kwahdee" on the radio, with "Kwahdee" being the most common.

When he coached for the A's, they called him KWA-day.

"Plus, he looks a bit like Freddy Kreuger".

They called him Kwaid on SC the other day. As Rich notes, KWA-day (occsionally KWA-dee) with the A's.

He is KWA-dee on WGN-TV, but I don't know if those two would be considered a high credible source.

Consensus seems to be KWAH-dee, based on Heyman article from this week, Wikipedia and my unwillingness to look beyond those two sources.

isn't it kwaid? if not, this guy's obviously never been through ellis island. and considering that, he should probably be careful when he's playing the diamondbacks.

KWAH-dee when he played A-ball & certainly could have corrected the PA announcer without raising his voice.
