Denny McLain: Strousburg, Verlander and Some Football Stuff!

Hail, dear old Strousburg, we’re out to win.
Always victorious, never give in.
We’re champs and then some, victors o’er all.
C’mon, gang, lots of pep
Rah! Rah! Rah!

STROUSBURG

If Strousburg of the Washington Nationals is healthy why isn’t he pitching after the 12th of September? This is just “NUTS!”

Washington Senator Manager Davey Johnson stated Sunday the Phenom Strousburg will be done after his next turn. Can you imagine? Here they are in the middle of a run for the World Series an opportunity that every major leaguer plays for, a World Series Title. Do you mean that the geniuses in Washington now know that he can’t pitch more than 160 innings or so. What happened to last year? You mean that they are so smart now that they can predict when a guy is going to get hurt? Why didn’t they see it coming last year?

Folks, you never see it coming, it takes one pitch, one bad wind-up, one bad anything, but who the hell can predict that someone is going to get hurt? If I am a fan in Washington, I want my money back if they sit this phenom down for the rest of the year, by the way, if they are afraid of him getting hurt, why pitch him at all? Maybe next year, 5 innings huh? Just from seeing him from afar, how good can he be if he stays healthy? But they must let him pitch and let’s see if he can pitch in the 7th, 8th and 9 innings. Pitching in the late innings is a different game than pitching in the first six, I guarantee you that fact.

What I want to know is how a serial embezzler like McLain can keep getting sprung from jail.

I'm sure the packing plant workers already want their money back, ########.

No spell checkers at the vaunted In Play! Sports Magazine? Or is their job to keep McLain in cheeseburgers?

Strousburg -- whoever he is -- will never win 31 games at this rate!

Washington Senators?

This is pretty funny coming from a guy who was washed up at 26 after consecutive years of 325 IP.

He trying to get "Strousburg" to replace "McClain" as the most frequently misspelled pitcher's name on the internet.

Four of the Nationals starters are now in the top 18 in MLB in qualifying ERA, and all five are in the top 32. That's what I call a rotation right there.

If Lannan can continue pitching as solidly as he has been lately in the minors, I'm starting to think we may be OK even without Strasburg.

I just took the bus through Stroudsburg the other day.

The worst part, of course, is that McLain is right...

Human nature being what it is, come 2052 Strasburg will likely be making his own "hey you kids, keep off my lawn" comments about the handling of some hurler yet to be born. (However, let's hope Stephen never has to spend time in jail...or learns to play the organ, for that matter.)

Exactly. McLain is one of the poster boys for why you wouldn't want to overuse a young pitcher.

Just...don't go there.

That Strazboorg guy needs to man up and learn what it was like when I was playing. We had to walk to all of our road games and we didn't have these fancy shoes that they have now, we had our old Chuck Taylor sneakers and they wore out and believe me it was tough when you are on the highway in Idaho trying to get to Seattle to play the Pilots and you are in your bare feet. I once pitched 200 innings in one week and also had to work as a garbage man so I would have enough money for new sneakers. That damn Mickey Lolich stole all my food and I had to roll drunks in order to buy booze. One time Northrup and I were out trying to pick up chicks and they laughed at me because my arm was all curled up because Mayo Smith made me throw 323 pitches in an extra inning game and I didn't get any.

Just wait until even the Royals can't let Jeff "Francouer" play outfield anymore and he has to turn to the mound to keep his career alive.

Thank you, ladies and gentlemen! As your president, my first act will be an instant death penalty for anyone who puts an extra 'C' in a name that begins with "Mc". There will be no fair trial. Amen.

Mark Maguire says "Hi".

He's not a pitcher, but still....

I predict that late September callup mystery Steve N. Strousburg will go 5-0 in the playoffs for the Nats, while wearing a fake nose and glasses in every start.

Hahaha, this is hilarious. I love the format of the post. TOPIC followed by a stream of thoughts on the subject. Then he just keeps changing it up. Quite an entertaining read, even without the errors and everything.
