Derek Jeter Gift Meter: LA Angels

As Mudhoney once sludged:

I got something waiting for you
I got this gift
I got this gift
Right here.

Analysis:  If the rule is to present something that represents the culture of your city, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim hit the jackpot. Very few things say So-Cal more than a gift that brings the ocean to mind.  The size of it did make the presentation a bit awkward, however, and the fact that some of had never heard of it before cannot be ignored.

Rating:  On a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being garbage and 10 being perfect— 9

Congratulations, Jeets. The next presentation should be this weekend in Milwaukee.

Also the game. The Angels gave him the game. They gave him the game so hard, they should get gift baskets.

Nice. He can drop that paddle board into the water off the backyard of St Jetersburg. Nicely played Angels.

Stand-up Paddleboards have become very popular out here.

Good gift idea since his lateral range is ideal for a stand-up paddleboard.

Nice. Those things are a good time.

So has anybody given him a gift basket yet?

Everywhere. Adirondack lakes last summer, Mexico three weeks ago, everywhere.

I'm a big fan of the blog in TFA covering Jeet's farewell tour spoils. I only wish they compared what Jeter and Rivera got and rendered judgment on who was more honored by each club. I'm almost certain to forget about it, though, so hopefully it pops back up near the end of the season so I can go through the backlog.

The respect and affection that the Angel fans (and players) obviously had for Derek was a very nice thing to see.

Snark gets old and tiresome quickly. Great ballplayers who are also terrific people outside of the lines are much more enduring.

I hope the A's give him Jeremy Giambi.
