Detroit Free Press: Jacque Jones released

If he doesn’t get an offer from San Diego, I’m sure the Streetwalkers have a roster spot open.

I was a big fan of Jacque last year. He's not done yet. His power may be sapped, but he can still be a capable 4th OF.

Leyland announced Sheffield will move to LF, opening up DH. Looks like Bonds is a good fit.

He's already been reunited with Sheffield and Renteria from the '97 Marlins...you want them to acquire Moises Alou too?

No, I like the Tigers. If I didn't, I'd be advocating Jeff Conine.

Sheffield in LF? How's his defense compared to Bonds's these days?

I'd guess they're pretty similarly defensively, although Sheffield's arm is probably better.

The great thing is that, once Bonds is signed, he and Sheffield can form a LF/DH platoon. Every day they swap positions. Should keep them both fresh.

I suspect Inge would be serviceable at all 8 non-pitcher positions, and possibly even an average SS/2B.

Has anyone ever played 130 (or more) games at SS and then been--as I'm assuming Guillen be--primarily a DH the next season? I can't imagine so.

They released Dimitri Young last year and he hit very nicely for the Nat's...now Jacques get released.

Prediction: Nat's pick up Jones and he has an resurgence.

The Angels' LFers (mostly Matthews and Anderson) are hitting for a .726 OPS. Their DHs (mostly Matthews and Anderson) are hitting for a .573 OPS.

The Mariners' DH (Vidro) is hitting for a .610 OPS.

It's not like these players can be expected to produce.

Yes, there is absolutely no logical reason to expect Garret Anderson or Jose Vidro to be league-average bats... absolutely none

I was kind of wondering about that too.
He was sucking up the joint but I don't really have high hopes that Matt Joyce will be a better MLB ballplayer from May 5, '08 - Oct 2008 and Joyce is a marginal "prospect" so I doubt the move is to give him MLB at-bats.

That's exactly the problem: a league average bat at DH or LF is not producing.

From the story up on ESPN now. This is for all those who were speculating that offers may have been made to Bonds that he declined because the amount being offered was too low:

Jeff Borris, the agent for Bonds, said, "No team has made me an offer for any amount at any time since Barry became a free agent."
