Detroit, San Francisco Symphonies Root, Root, Root for the Home Team

In an era when sports fans can pepper — or flood — their Twitter feeds and Facebook posts with praise for one team and trash-talk for the other, social networks add a new and non-stop dimension to root, root, rooting for the home team.

So, while the Giants and Tigers battle it out on the ball field, the orchestras from their respective cities are engaged in their own friendly online rivalry. It’s @DetroitSymphony vs. @SFSymphony and the winner receives a box of local treats from the loser’s city.

Maybe for San Fran. Probably want to flat the third for Detroit.

I thought they might do something more charitable like buy tickets, instruments or lessons for low-income kids.

A short disappointing coda to Detroit's season in no way diminished how they conducted themselves this year. They remain a major threat to score plenty of wins again next year.

Or shoot, let's lower the third AND fifth for Detroit. I'm not trying to diminish their success this season, but...

After such a flat performance in concert, they should all be sent to the minors.

This has been a dominant performance by the Giants; just the tonic they needed.
