Diamond Notes: dodgers-willing-to-sell-off-eric-stults

Japanese baseball blogs here and here are linking to stories that indicate the Chiba Lotte Marines are interested in purchasing the contract of Dodgers left-hander Eric Stults.

Stults, who turns 30 next week, went 4-3 in 10 starts for the Dodgers last season, including a shutout. Chiba Lotte reportedly thinks he can pitch in their rotation.

Dodgers can’t even afford Eric Stults.

Stults is a lefty junkballer who is out of options. I've long thought he could be an okay back of the rotation starter if given a real shot with the right team, but the Dodgers have only wanted to use him as an emergency starter, so I can understand why his agent would approach Japanese teams, while he is still young enough to get a decent paycheck.

Stults gets it up there around 92, so he's not a pure junkballer. But yeah, he's probably better than just about every MLB team's fifth starter. Not sure why the Dodgers gave up a lot for guys like Jon Garland when they had Stults around.

Torre hates Stults for some reason.

It was that game in Colorado in, just guessing here, but around June of 2007. Dodgers handed Stults a big lead at Coors Field, but he still couldn't make it through 5 innings. Torre's treated him like dog meat ever since.

oh, c'mon - there should have been a some kind of wonderful reference...or maybe michael j. fox will now be pitching for the dodgers?
