Diamondbacks call up former elite prospect Andy Marte

He better not do anything, 2010 is when I released him.

Once upon a time Andy Marte was one of the best prospects in baseball… But wait, his story may not be over quite yet. Marte is now 30 years old and has spent this season playing at Triple-A for the Diamondbacks, who just called him up to the majors for his first big-league action since 2010.

Marte was having a great season at Triple-A, hitting .330 with 13 homers and an .898 OPS in 102 games.

He has a 5.000 OPS so far. That's a 1214 OPS+.

He should drop the mic now and go out on a high note. Because something tells me the pitchers are about to adjust to him.

He's the new Wily Mo Pena!

Adjust to him? Are they going to spend hours watching his one plate appearance?

(pre-emptively: I am just joking. I also think he will probably be bad.)

Finally the Diamondbacks plan is coming together!

I believe that is 85 OPS+ park adjusted for Reno/PCL.

Andy ranked second in OPS among people named A. Marte on the Reno Aces.

The dream of the aughts is alive in Phoenix.

I'm pulling for him. That said, Marte might have been the last prospect about whom I got outraged when my team traded him. Since then, much less.

He was unparalled, as a 24 year old with Macon in the Sally league.
