NOT Conradian. That was a hard-hit ball through the shadows that was rightly deemed a hit. In fact, probably a good play overall, runner might have gone to third if not for him stopping the ball.

man joey is hitting everything to left. he can still hit but the knee must be killing him as he has no ability to turn much less generate any torque

that and like i wrote last night and a few weeks back he has lost weight. any reds fans know the scoop? did votto catch the flu or something? he looks way too lean

I really wanted to see Zito do well today. He drives me crazy and is not good anymore, but he has taken his demotion in 2010 with class and I was wishing time would turn back for just one afternoon. Oh well one more year before that contract is up.

ludwick is the latter day hitters version of red ruffing in that put him on bad teams in tough parks and he plays worse than he is. put him on a good team in a good park for power and he's a tough out

he looked so lost in san diego and pittsburgh i left bad for him.

I assume folks have covered this from various issues, but is Lincecum's problem simply that he can't throw his good stuff out of the stretch?

740 OPS, 3:1 K:BB with bases empty
804 OPS, 1.5:1 K:BB with runners on
887 OPS, 1.1:1 K:BB with RISP

The even worse RISP split wouldn't be explained here, and neither would Lincecum's runners on splits not breaking down perfectly by windup/no-windup base-out situations.

It wasn't a simple play, mostly. Leake hit the ball straight into the ground, it took a huge hop nearly to the outfield grass. Scutaro should have charged and caught it on the fly, he tried to play the (difficult) short hop and muffed it.

Lincecum isn't the guy I'd want out there in a leveraged situation with runners on. With Leake on second, maybe he can just say #### it and go to the windup?

Not that I know of, although I think the 18-inning game between Atlanta and Houston was apparently close to it: if Clemens got too tired or got hurt, they'd have had no pitchers left because the only one left was in Atlanta preparing for a possible Game 5.

I mean, if you absolutely absolutely have to. But I'd bet that he's thinking of Bumgarner as his long relief cover for Cain if he has to go Johnny Wholestaff today and Cain doesn't have it tomorrow.

Was assuming he would save Affeldt for that, so that would leave one less arm to get through the other outs. I am more worried about Lud right now

Absolutely. The previous two players hit Leake hard. Give Scut a chance. (I wouldn't be surprised if the bunt were Scutaro's choice. Lots of players really like bunting the guy over to third, and he's a good bunter.)

This game single-handedly rescued my baseball fandom. I was growing bored with the game until that little dude bled his way through those six innings.

Obviously there are innumerable aspects of that appearance that make it great. But if I had to pick one, it'd be the way Pedro figured out in under 10 pitches that he had to work backwards off his curve (his #3 pitch), and he immediately knew just how to do it.

Cairo having value is the most surprising thing I think I will see today. I remember when I first found this board, in am thinking about 2004? Yankee fanboys ranting about him on here was some of the most entertaining stuff.
