Jogging, nonchalantly blowing a bubble ... oh ####, the ball is carrying!
   502. boteman Posted: October 10, 2012 at 08:32 PM (#4262509)
Adam Jones needs to put on about 150 pounds if he wants to blow bubbles while fielding fly balls like Kung Fu Panda.

I don't know about terrible, but he definitely accelerated at the end. If he had been running like that the whole way, he would have caught it easily.

That might get Jones a gift basket.

Adam Jones needs to put on about 150 pounds if he wants to blow bubbles while fielding fly balls like Kung Fu Panda.
Jones always blows bubbles while fielding fly balls. He's said he doesn't even know when he does it.
   511. Chip Posted: October 10, 2012 at 08:34 PM (#4262518)
Sigh. Would've been a nice play, but Jones should have caught that.

No, it would have been a routine play. If he hadn't misread it and come in first, hadn't reversed his field too slowly, hadn't jogged back when he did. Before sprinting too late.
   512. Tuque Posted: October 10, 2012 at 08:34 PM (#4262519)
The Orioles better win this game or sportswriters and news radio types are going to pounce all over the bubble-blowing.
   513. boteman Posted: October 10, 2012 at 08:35 PM (#4262520)
If the Orioles lose this game by 1 run, Adam Jones will never live down that video clip of him blowing a bubble as he chased that fly ball.

No Coke. Great minds think alike. :-)
   514. Gamingboy Posted: October 10, 2012 at 08:35 PM (#4262521)
Exactly what Larry M. said. The bubble-blowing is second nature for most of these guys. They have no idea they are doing it.
   515. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 10, 2012 at 08:38 PM (#4262523)
i saw dale sveum blow a bubble as he was diving for a ground ball back in the day

The only good fans are in the bleachers. They may be troglodytes but at least they cheer.
   517. Portia Stanke Posted: October 10, 2012 at 08:40 PM (#4262525)

How lame would Giants vs Cards be when we thought we would be getting Reds vs Nats?

Not lame at all. Now if the Yankees push the Orioles out and we wind up with NYY vs. Detroit, that would be lame.
   518. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: October 10, 2012 at 08:41 PM (#4262526)
The cards have ni business even being in the playoffs; just like 2006.
   519. Baldrick Posted: October 10, 2012 at 08:42 PM (#4262527)
Yeah, after seeing the replay that wasn't just a bad defensive play - it was a total disaster. Break the wrong way, take a poor route once you start going back, and fail to run fast enough.

It's plays like that where I sympathize just a little bit with the stereotypical dumb baseball fan because it just makes me want to scream "put some effort into it!! Act like you care about winning the game!!"
   520. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: October 10, 2012 at 08:45 PM (#4262528)
Shittacular non dp there....bad play all around
   521. Guts Posted: October 10, 2012 at 08:46 PM (#4262530)
Reynolds should get 2 bases on that.

The cards have ni business even being in the playoffs; just like 2006.

Cardinals had the second best record in the NL(in 2006) with about 3 weeks to go. They honestly just didn't give a #### how many games they won the last three weeks of the season.
   523. boteman Posted: October 10, 2012 at 08:47 PM (#4262532)
The only good fans are in the bleachers. They may be troglodytes but at least they cheer.

I don't think you understand the magnitude of social opprobrium that can leveled by the typical pinky-in-the-air non-cheering fan towards those of us in the high-dollar seats who do cheer, even wimpily. Not all knives are made of metal.

(Yes, I love hyphenated adjectives.)

That's the second time this series that Cal has called a camera "High Home" by name. He's using the correct name, but I think that is one of those things that is never done, like shooting your film equipment on a TV show by accident.

He's not this good, though. The Yankees are making him look like Cy Gonzalez.

Which shouldn't be a surprise. They've been doing this for a month now.

Mickey Mantle
Andruw Jones
Miguel Cabrera
Manny Machado

Russell Martin gets it.

The only good fans are in the bleachers. They may be troglodytes but at least they cheer.

And even the bleachers have been muted somewhat in the new stadium. At most of the games I've been to, security generally tries to make people behave themselves, which results in a noticeably less boisterous crowd during the down periods of games. As a whole, I don't consider this is a negative thing though.
   551. TVerik, the gum-snappin' hairdresser Posted: October 10, 2012 at 09:14 PM (#4262569)
It'll be a bit of a neat trick if the Orioles can win the series while being outscored.

Fair enough. Anyone can screw up.

Though we do live in the post-bartman world, everyone can learn from his example.

cfb, I've seen a lot of guys that say knuckleball. My guess is those are based on interviews and no one seriously answers them. If you say, "I love the knuckleball" anyone looking at that for info will dismiss whatever is said.
