And the best part is that it's off Valverde. #### that guy.
   1006. Every Inge Counts Posted: October 11, 2012 at 12:54 AM (#4263080)
Valverde is pure garbage, the fact that Leyland continues to trot him out there as a "closer" is mind-boggling.

Wooooooooo!

1010. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 11, 2012 at 12:55 AM (#4263084)
What's Valverde doing throwing the exact same pitch again on 1-1?
1011. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 11, 2012 at 12:55 AM (#4263085)
As someone who watched a lot of Tigers games this season, Valverde has had a few outings where he just cannot get any outs and looks defeated the whole way. This is how he looks right now.
   1012. Lassus Posted: October 11, 2012 at 12:55 AM (#4263086)
WOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO!
   1013. Every Inge Counts Posted: October 11, 2012 at 12:55 AM (#4263087)
No it is a ####### shitty night of baseball. #### Oakland. Cannot wait until Verlander shuts their sorry asses down.
   1014. Cooper Nielson Posted: October 11, 2012 at 12:55 AM (#4263088)
Now I am exhaling tears.
1015. The Ghost's Tryin' to Reason with Hurricane Season Posted: October 11, 2012 at 12:55 AM (#4263089)
I ain't bunting with this roll going.

EDIT: .. but what do I know?
   1016. PreservedFish Posted: October 11, 2012 at 12:56 AM (#4263090)
Dammit I should be at this game.
   1017. crict Posted: October 11, 2012 at 12:56 AM (#4263091)
Should have brought in Verlander.

   1021. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: October 11, 2012 at 12:56 AM (#4263095)
Why not bunt....holy shityou have ti bunt there!!!
   1022. Guts Posted: October 11, 2012 at 12:56 AM (#4263096)
Looking at DET's bullpen, Valverde is their worst reliever! It seems like Leyland should reconfigure his usage.
   1023. JE (Jason Epstein) Posted: October 11, 2012 at 12:56 AM (#4263097)
So where is Billy Beane at this moment? Driving around in his truck listening to his daughter's singing, no doubt...

I had only gotten to Post 971 here, doublechecked mlb.com but did assume the series was over.

not so, apparently....

1026. Best Regards, President of Comfort, Esq. Posted: October 11, 2012 at 12:57 AM (#4263100)
If the A's win, Tigers have to burn Verlander.
   1027. Davo Dozier Posted: October 11, 2012 at 12:58 AM (#4263101)
OK, I had a good chuckle watching Prince chase after that foul ball.

   1030. Guts Posted: October 11, 2012 at 12:59 AM (#4263104)
Yeah, not sure about that 3d strike.

I saw him plowing right through the wall like the Kool-Aid Man.
   1032. Dr. Vaux Posted: October 11, 2012 at 12:59 AM (#4263106)
Valverde cannot be allowed to pitch again, period. He can't be the closer next year, either. This is ridiculous. If I was the GM, I'd have released him a month ago to get him away from the damn manager.

That was far too shallow to score the run. Except Garcia botched it.

Game 5. Another day with 4 games. Almost makes up for how crummy a lot of the day has been.

And there woulda been a play at the plate if that's fielded cleanly. Smith is not fast.

The play at the plate would have probably bounced off of Valverde's fatass.
   1056. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: October 11, 2012 at 01:01 AM (#4263131)
That would have been tough to score on with a good throw.
   1057. hokieneer Posted: October 11, 2012 at 01:02 AM (#4263132)
Coco redeems the day. Well a little.

Let's go Latos!

   1061. Every Inge Counts Posted: October 11, 2012 at 01:02 AM (#4263136)
So who saw that coming?

I did, a ####### mile away. Either Benoit or Valverde was going to blow this game. Benoit tried to, but Valverde made sure it was going to happen.

Well at least Oakland gets to lose Game 5.
   1062. JE (Jason Epstein) Posted: October 11, 2012 at 01:02 AM (#4263137)
Will someone revive Shooty?
   1063. Dr. Vaux Posted: October 11, 2012 at 01:03 AM (#4263138)
You know the Tigers will be shut out tomorrow if Verlander allows 1 run. If he allows 2 runs, they'll score 1 or be shut out. Etc., etc., etc. They can't score for crap. And if they lead going to the 9th, Valverde will go back in the game and he'll gack it up again. And then the A's will lose to the Yankees. It's so obviously going to turn out that way, but it's still going to happen. Nobody can do any ####### thing about it.

Yankees were on the verge of a 2-1 deficit and the Tigers' vaunted rotation and pen well-rested for the ALCS with one more W.

#thingschange

Lol, someone is actually complaining that Leyland took out Scherzer. As if that's what cost the Tigers the game. That would have been one hell of a 160-pitch complete game, though, I'll grant him that.
   1081. Poster Nutbag Posted: October 11, 2012 at 01:14 AM (#4263160)
In all seriousness, wouldn't it be great for Oakland to go all the way in the year King finally wins the Frick award?
   1082. shoewizard Posted: October 11, 2012 at 01:14 AM (#4263161)
Ryan Cook took a nasty fall during the celebration.

that would suck...although I always am amazed that doesn't happen more often
   1083. Cooper Nielson Posted: October 11, 2012 at 01:15 AM (#4263163)
Lol, someone is actually complaining that Leyland took out Scherzer. As if that's what cost the Tigers the game. That would have been one hell of a 160-pitch complete game, though, I'll grant him that.

Alburquerque could've gone three innings. He's the only guy in that effing bullpen that I trust right now.
   1084. Dr. Vaux Posted: October 11, 2012 at 01:16 AM (#4263165)
Yes, if anything he stayed with Scherzer too long. I might have put in Porcello for the eighth or something like that, with the intention of backing him up with Benoit, even though Benoit is terrible.

But I want the A's to win tomorrow night, so I can bear to watch the ALCS, instead of knowing the Tigers barely got there and will get crushed. Verlander can keep them in the games he starts, but I don't want to see the awakened Yankees against Fister and Scherzer--and especially the bullpen--and the pop-gun offense against any Yankee pitcher except maybe Phil Hughes. And maybe if the A's win the series, the Tigers will get rid of ####### Valverde.
1085. Best Regards, President of Comfort, Esq. Posted: October 11, 2012 at 01:17 AM (#4263166)
The Yankees aren't "awakened", Vaux. They're Jeter, Martin, Ibanez, and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
   1086. Every Inge Counts Posted: October 11, 2012 at 01:18 AM (#4263168)
It sucks that the Tigers have to waste such good starting pitching on such a terrible bullpen.
1087. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 11, 2012 at 01:19 AM (#4263170)
I'd kinda like to see Game 5 turn into a slugfest and be left up to the bullpens.
   1088. Every Inge Counts Posted: October 11, 2012 at 01:21 AM (#4263171)
That means the Tigers would actually have to be able to hit with runners in scoring position. I doubt that happens anytime soon.
   1089. dr. scott Posted: October 11, 2012 at 01:21 AM (#4263172)

Wow. I had walked away from the game in frustration at how badly the whole day of baseball had gone, and my eyes just about bugged out of my head when I looked and saw the final score. That was a pretty awesome comeback, and like boteman said, it goes some way towards redeeming the rest of the day.
1093. Ivan Grushenko of Hong Kong Posted: October 11, 2012 at 01:29 AM (#4263177)
I was watching the A's partly to get the last looks at a great season and partly because I thought they always have a chance. Game 5 tomorrow night!!!!!
   1094. dr. scott Posted: October 11, 2012 at 01:30 AM (#4263178)
The SF bay area had a horrible weekend, but a great week. Has there ever been a playoff where two teams needed to win three and did?
