Of course.
On the bright side, it isn't like Detweiler and then Gonzalez again means they can't win the last two, though Detweiler was not good in his last few starts. On the other bright side, a Cardinals-Reds NLCS would probably be pretty exciting.
Nats hitters: 2 BB, 1 KO
Cards up, 4-0 (?!?!)
In addition to the HR mentioned above, the Cards have outhit them 9-5. Now, you can call that BABIP if you like, but getting twice as many hits as the other guy is a good thing and often leads to victories.
Without Cueto.
And, look, any 7 game series with the pennant on the line will be "exciting" in the abstract. I mean, if it were the Astros and the Cubs, it would be exciting. It's baseball and it's elimination. Why have the pretense of a long, hard season just to try to get "exciting". It that's all we need, just make a 6 month elimination tournament.
Didn't Strasburgs last few starts make the decision (which I admit they had already committed to)much more palatable? (Looking it up, two bad game bookending a gem against the Cardinals.)

Small samples can be a ##### (or a blessing).

And I think, if you're saying what I think you're saying, that you put way too much stock in BABIP.
Have you been talking to MGL :)
1994.
I read an article that said that spitball died when the split-finger fastball was developed, as it had similar movement but could be thrown more consistently, given that you don't have to doctor the ball.
Probably a correct one, too.
EDIT: And I immediately look like an idiot.
Note: for those who like to bag on the shadow comment, it's arguable that the announcers ######## about it, is their subtle way(without pissing off the powers that be) of complaining about the start times for these games.
The only way to have a day game without shadows this time of the year is to start the game at 11:00 AM or something.
Of course, giving up only one run after 2nd and 3rd, one out is a pretty "good" outcome.
They did get bailed out a bit by the umpire there, though.
Robert, you know better. This was not an oversight; it's just that no player would go on the record with this statement.
This is from pages back but I just wanted to go on the record that I was clearly joking.
It's not the shadows being there that is the complaint, its when the shadows and light are split between the mound and the plate, that seems to be the problem.
I was glad to see him going out there for the 7th
Glad to see the announcer was about to say that it's arguable that the Mays catch isn't the greatest catch of all time.
Now on to tbs and game 2. Can someone tell me what Joe Simpson bring to the announcer booth. I hav yet to hear any reason for him to be n the booth in the first 3 games. Is he good somewhere else?
A catcher led the league in triples!
STILL the most triples hit by a catcher since 1903!
That catcher is now a longtime baseball announcer!
Yeah, I actually thought this was a better-known thing than it is.
Beltran wasn't there for the Cardinals this year during the stretch run either. He did most of his damage at the beginning of the season.
Depends on if he saw Coco Crisp's catch last night.

I wonder what percentage of baseball viewers don't realize McCarver played or how good he was. We can mock his announcing career but he had a hell of a playing career.
You have Costas mentions Mays, but it's not on the checklist.
Fixed. Technically I meant for Willie Mays being mentioned in the Giants game, but who cares? Also put in McGwire. Now, technically I could mark down "Olympian" due to McGwire being on the 1984 US team, but that's not really in the spirit of the rules.
An interesting conjecture that makes a surprising amount of sense.
He also started off as a darn good announcer, as others here have noted.
Against Barry Zito. It's an even matchup.
And Detroit would have HFA in said LCS, if I'm correct.
Don't a lot of them do that, then the execs at the tv studios get their claws in them(or just sure laziness as you get older or maybe even natural cumurgendy(sp))
Zito has a shutout going.
Good point. I'll withdrawal my comment. The injury unfairly colored my judgement. He was better than I remember, although I never remember him getting this insanely hot at any point.
I was going to say something about that, but couldn't come up with anything funny.
he only does that for the post season... and the stretch run for the Astros.
At some point in time, it's going to have to be argued that he is on the short list as the best post season player in baseball history. 13 homeruns in 25 games, 1.297 ops

It will be removed from the overall list starting on the next page, so let me know if I missed anything.
The Reds kept Leake off the postseason roster in favor of Simon or Arredondo for the "long reliever". Maybe there is a 0% chance Cueto will pitch this postseason, but if this is all Leake can do.. then what's wrong with going with a bullpen game? The Reds have one of the best pens in baseball. I'm pretty sure they could get the 7th in decent condition with the group of LeCure, Simon, Hoover, and Arredondo.
