So does a pitcher go to the outfield?
   204. PeteF3 Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:01 PM (#4261180)
They still have a catcher. Posey can go to 1B and Nady to the OF.

I'm listening.

Darling has a lot of faith in Joaquin Arias if he's arguing that Belt should have bunted.

EDIT: Excuse me, Nady
   207. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:04 PM (#4261183)
nasty pitch
   208. charityslave is thinking about baseball Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:05 PM (#4261187)
The mistake was taking Bailey out after seven. I'd have let him hit. He could have pushed the bullpen back by an inning or two.
   209. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:06 PM (#4261188)
I'd rather have Lincecum up there batting than Nady with the season on the line.

edit: I'm not the kind of guy who says "I told ya so!"
   210. Gamingboy Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:06 PM (#4261189)
Lincecum! [X]
   211. McCoy Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:07 PM (#4261190)
Geez, the A's are already down 3 runs. It's over.
   212. fra paolo Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:07 PM (#4261191)
Does that fire come out of those chimneys with every strikeout?
   213. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:08 PM (#4261193)
Yep, that's the Xavier Nady I remember so well from early this season: a harmless, easy out.
   214. fra paolo Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:08 PM (#4261194)
Geez, the A's are already down 3 runs. It's over.

That's just mean.

fra

yes. and if you happen to sit up there it's both hot and it smells when the fire bursts out
   216. Moe Greene Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:09 PM (#4261197)
No intentional walk here with Romo on deck?
   217. McCoy Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:09 PM (#4261198)
Infante with the blast!
   218. fra paolo Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:09 PM (#4261199)
Might be a wide strike zone in Oakland.
   219. charityslave is thinking about baseball Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:10 PM (#4261200)
A's are the victims of this stupid 2-3 away-home format.
   220. fra paolo Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:10 PM (#4261201)
it's both hot and it smells when the fire bursts out

So it's like when Bernal plays with Zippos?
   221. McCoy Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:10 PM (#4261202)
It's over.
   222. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:11 PM (#4261203)
It is NOT over!!
   223. PeteF3 Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:11 PM (#4261204)
That's two plays Rolen needed to make in this inning.
   224. An Athletic in Powderhorn™ Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:11 PM (#4261205)
E5! I love it.
   225. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:11 PM (#4261206)
and the warm over corpse that was scott rolen can't make the play
   226. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:11 PM (#4261207)
You knew that was happening.
   227. Red Menace Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:12 PM (#4261208)
The mistake was taking Bailey out after seven. I'd have let him hit. He could have pushed the bullpen back by an inning or two.

That's Dusty Baker for you. Always taking his young starters out too soon...
   228. Roger McDowell spit on me! Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:12 PM (#4261209)
And Pence is still at 2nd. Even with two out he didn't even try to move...
   229. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:12 PM (#4261210)
My gawd, Brian Wilson has lost a LOT of weight. But his beard is still coal black. :-)
   230. Gamingboy Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:13 PM (#4261211)
Wait, what's going on i Oakland? It says 0-0 on the bottom of TBS...
   231. charityslave is thinking about baseball Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:13 PM (#4261212)
Reds wasted a great start by Bailey.

Nothing's going on. Joey is being Joey, and McCoy for some reason thinks he's funny.
   233. fra paolo Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:14 PM (#4261214)
Wait, what's going on i Oakland?

Lots of Ks.
   234. bunyon Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:14 PM (#4261215)
gamingboy, I have no idea either. But I'm not more sober than I was an hour ago.
   235. charityslave is thinking about baseball Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:15 PM (#4261216)
McCoy having a bit of fun at our expense. BAN HIM.
   236. PeteF3 Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:15 PM (#4261217)
I contend that Pence's hit that got by Rolen should not have been a hit. That was a Jeterian play on his part. That he bobbled a crucial ground ball afterward is even more inexcusable.
   237. Gamingboy Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:16 PM (#4261219)
Pence playing with one calf....
   238. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:16 PM (#4261220)
Well, this is easy for the Reds. Just hit it to Pence.
   239. PeteF3 Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:16 PM (#4261221)
Hey Dusty, this is what it looks like to see a closer go multiple innings.
   240. hokieneer Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:16 PM (#4261222)
I thought both Marshall and Chapman could have been extended past 1 inning.
   241. bunyon Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:16 PM (#4261223)
Coco Crisp
   242. Hey - you and Tommy Lasorda...I hate Tommy Lasorda Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:17 PM (#4261224)
I think the ball hit to Rolen was to tough of a hop to be considered Conradian
   243. hokieneer Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:17 PM (#4261225)
#236 I agree.
   244. bunyon Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:18 PM (#4261226)
Rolen looked like Dorn on Pence's ball.
   245. fra paolo Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:19 PM (#4261227)
Cespedes up with ducks on the pond.
   246. Gamingboy Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:19 PM (#4261228)
Hunter Pence is probably doing the whole Jeremy Giambi "don't hit it to me" thing.
   247. McCoy Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:19 PM (#4261229)
Cespedes up with 2 on and no outs.
   248. hokieneer Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:20 PM (#4261230)
I guess its hr or bust for the reds the last 3 innings.
   249. McCoy Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:20 PM (#4261231)
A hit. 1 run,
   250. fra paolo Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:20 PM (#4261232)
A's take the lead, 1-0.
   251. Bourbon Samurai in Asia Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:20 PM (#4261233)
I want the giants to win basically just a zito gets a Postseason start
   252. McCoy Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:21 PM (#4261235)
Game.
   253. bunyon Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:21 PM (#4261236)

   254. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:21 PM (#4261237)
Wait, does the out count if Romo doesn't kiss the ball before throwing it to first?
   255. Gamingboy Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:21 PM (#4261238)
Okay, at least 3 of 4 series will go at least 4.
   256. Joey B.: posting for the kids of northeast Ohio Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:21 PM (#4261239)
And now, let's head on over to the Great Green Tarpaulin of Shame.

[edit] at least as a neutral ...

Oh sure, THAT he catches.

i suspect dusty will sit rolen to get frazier in there against a lefty. toss in ludwick and stubbs and votto not caring who is pitching and the offense should have a chance against zito

   279. The John Wetland Memorial Death (CoB) Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:44 PM (#4261269)
Wait, is Harold Laird related to Gerald Laird, or have I just been pronouncing it wrong the whole time?

I was surprised to see how much running this Oakland team does when I was reviewing post-season team's statistics today 154 attempts is the second-highest total of the surviving eight teams, behind SF's 157.
   281. fra paolo Posted: October 09, 2012 at 09:48 PM (#4261274)

can he keep being a positive part of a lineup until age 35?

HW, plus it will be a little warmer tomorrow afternoon/evening. I know both teams play with the conditions, but GABP playing like a bigger park hurts the Reds more.

I guess it's just not your night when you give up 1 hit through 9 innings, and still find a way to lose the game in extras.

I would have extended Marshall and/or Chapman (of course I really never want to see Broxton in a tie again, but that's another story). With the uncertainty around Cueto, I would have tried to get at least 3+ innings out of my top 2 relievers. That game was there to win, and Dusty did a Paint with Numbers with his pen.

2012 was an extreme year, but it looks like that's kind of always been true for Cabrera. For his career, per 650 PA:
vs. R - 34 HR
vs. L - 26 HR

Walks about twice as much against lefties, hits a few more doubles.
