Pretty much every event on a baseball field will be broken down by Buck Martinez into how it affects someone's confidence.

EVERYTHING

Their confidence or their status as a rookie or veteran ballplayer, which determines their confidence.

Well, that's it. The Tigers can't score, and will now proceed to lose three in a row.

Seth Smith? Really? That's like randomly finding $20 on the sidewalk. I am surprised but happy.

Back to the first game, I still don't see why Dusty pitched to Arias. Wasn't 1b open, and the pitchers spot up next? Seems like forcing the Giants to pinch hit with their backup catcher would have been the best move, especially after seeing Arias put a couple of good swings on the ball early in the at bat. Am I missing something here? I was especially struck by how it was not really mentioned on this board at the time.

Their confidence or their status as the home or visiting team, which determines their confidence.

The team leading the series is confident. But also, too, the team behind in the series has their backs to the wall, which gives them confidence.
   309. Gamingboy Posted: October 09, 2012 at 10:33 PM (#4261319)
How confident were you going into the final 10 days of the season, Wash?

"I was incredibly confident."

The Tigers' announcers are praising the Athletics' fans and saying the Commissioner ought to do something about getting them a decent ballpark.

The first time i saw the google commercial I thought it was pretty cute but geez after airing about a bajillion times in 4 days it had become the most annoying commercial ever. A close second is deja deja deja deja vu.

Buck is one of my least favorites. The way he talks somehow bugs me.

That said, I will never forget his tagging two runners out at home, the second one after the first one broke his leg: video

It wasn't open until the passed ball. Since that was the 1st pitch of the AB, you're right, they should have gone ahead and loaded them up to force Bochy's hand. I wasn't thinking about it because it wasn't open when the AB started. Guess I failed the test.
   322. Gamingboy Posted: October 09, 2012 at 10:54 PM (#4261339)
Prince Fielder is probably going: HOW THE HELL DO I GET EXTRA-BASES ON YOU PEOPLE?!?!

I watch most baseball with a 2 year old that sits down to watch 6 seconds with me every 11 minutes and spends the rest of the time trying to prevent me from watching baseball. The details are often lost to me.

I didn't realize Arias was hitting in front of the pitcher. Bochey cleared his bench in the 8th and I didn't update my book.

Reds pitchers had 16 Ks, 1 BB, and 3 H; yet lost.

Might be. Do you have one of those configurations where your DVR automatically records whatever you are watching? My dad has that setup so whenever you switch channels it takes about 5 seconds to load since the DVR is building space.

I hate the towels, but they sure are better than those inflatable sticks. I felt concussed after I left Miller Park a few years ago. I'm sure the gallons of beer I consumed over that day and night had nothing to do with it.

God yes. I keep waiting for something to go wrong here ('06 and the first 2 games this year have made me dread the Tigers), but then there's a diving catch or a converted position player striking out the side. I see no reason why these guys couldn't pull an '84 Padres.

In truth, it will be less nerve wracking to watch the Yankees vs. A's in the ALCS than Yankees vs. Tigers. It's just a shame they went and made the Sanchez trade in a year like this.

Just got back from the game. It was impressive. A's fans were loud and boisterous, and coco made the greatest catch I've ever seen live. I'd have traded though. A run in this game for the out in the other game.
