I understand why it happens but it would be nice if they could find a way to not have the Yankee game be the prime time game every time they play. It's nothing against the Yankees, frankly as a Yankee hater I probably have more rooting interest in that series than any other, I just would like to see other teams. Obviously I'm not the first and won't be the last to make that complaint.
Do you know if Metro has does anything about the ubiquitous advertising for Cardinal Bank at the ballpark metro stop? I've been wondering if they were going to cover up the huge cardinal on the floor.
At least that fan will be reassured to know that Cy Young winner Barry Zito will be going tomorrow, if Vogelsong succeeds.

The guys in the row behind me were yelling for Steve Johnson to come in to relieve Chen in each of the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 6th, and 7th innings. I didn’t have the heart to tell them that it wasn’t possible.
Depends on your definition of "loophole" probably. A player who is replaced in one series due to injury is ineligible for the following series. So in this case Garcia would not be eligible for the NLCS and while that doesn't matter here I think it cuts down on some shenanigans like disabling the Game Four starter to get an extra reliever for Game Five or something.
It does allow for some tomfoolery in the World Series. I'd like to see it not allowed to be used during the WS since of course there is no "next series" to be ineligible for.
Is it a safe assumption that Showalter could bring Adam Jones into pitch and Oriole fans would roll with it at this point? He seems about as popular as it is possible for a manager to be with his fanbase right now.
Do you know of any other manager who's name was incorporated into a marketing slogan?
I totally missed that fan thing, and wouldn't even had known if you guys hadn't said so.
Marty Brennaman made sure we knew all about it except what the sign the chap was carrying said.
Also, can anyone tell me, as I haven't been paying attention, has Votto been reduced to a shell of his former self, and if so, for how long now?
It seemed to me to be more a case of Phillips being a bit foolish.
I assume the out at 3rd marks up the caught stealing
Edit: Except for Rolen.
I'd have to check the box score. It says stolen base (for second base) but nothing on it being officially a CS.
Edit "Gameday" box score
--- ETA: Oops. Totally missed the 'nobody ends up scoring' part. Early onset blindness, apparently.
Since Votto returned from his knee surgery, he hasn't hit a home run. However, he's still hitting doubles and singles, and drawing walks - he's had a .495 OBP since his return. The consensus is that he can't currently push off his surgically repaired back leg, and that has sapped his power, but the rest over the winter should restore it.
Yeah, start of a play.
Not me.
I think Buck has been excellent this year at rotating players in and out of spots, and he’s a pretty good in-game tactician, but I don’t really buy into the cult of Buck that gives him all of the credit. It’s gotten to the point where they are marketing the team around Buck. Those silly rally towels has the marketing catch phrase “BUCKle UP” printed on them.
Based on how other fans were reacting to Buck last night, though, I may be in the minority.
One thing I DO like about Buck being the center of attention is that it puts the spotlight on him – I think that’s helpful in shielding individual players from too much scrutiny or being expected to carry the team.
Frankly, something stinks about this story they're putting out about his shoulder "injury". He pitched just fine the last few weeks of the regular season, and I saw that look on his face yesterday; he was royally pissed off about getting pulled after giving up one run in two innings.
Yep

Is that how much more talented you think the Yankees are than the Orioles? Because the two teams went 9-9 head to head this year, and the Orioles outscored the Yankees in those games.
Look, I'm not going to deny that the Yankees put more talent on the field than the Orioles. And I don't think the Orioles as constituted from April through July were a playoff-level team, nor am I confident that the 2013 Orioles will be a playoff-level team -- but at this point I don't see how somebody can credibly say the Orioles, RIGHT NOW, are out of place in the ALDS, or that Baltimore eliminating New York would constitute a jaw-dropping upset.
The rules do allow teams to replace a player who is injured during a postseason series, but the player who is removed is ineligible for the next postseason series. The player can be replaced with any player in the organization as of 1 September - it's the same rule that allowed Francisco Rodriguez on the Angels' roster in 2002.
I don't think that the Cardinals are playing games here - I can't conceive of a circumstance under which they'd take Garcia out of the picture not only for this series but also the next if he weren't hurt, and they've already indicated that they don't expect Garcia back even if they do make it to the WS.

If that's the result of the five game series (ie, Yankees win the series 5/6), what's the per-game odds?
PS, there's a game live, that's 1-1 in the bottom of the third, can we pay more attention to that than to a series that is on a rest day today?
Yeah, kind of. When both teams have 'try' turned all the way up to 10. Not that it wasn't fun, I love watching Bucknell beat Syracuse or whatever. It's just unlikely they could do it three out of five.
Hmm. I think the Yanks are favorites, not least due to home field, but no way it's 3/14. What are the odds a 14 beats a 3 in a best of five? 1%? 0.1%?
I figure the O's are maybe 20-30% to win the series - that is a far cry from 3/14. As pointed out above - the season series was even and that includes a long stretch where the O's weren't all that great.
I suppose I am, but I have a very rational view of the MLB playoffs. At this stage anyone can potentially beat you, and none of these teams are THAT much better than any of the others.
We managed to unload our extra ones. Good luck!
Re: Votto
I haven't watched him a lot since he came off the dl, but it appears he has no drive off the injuried back leg. Still has his precision control of the strike zone though. Hopefully a few months of rest and he'll be back to normal.
Will Lincecum go tomorrow? Zito? How many worthless Cy Youngs are over on the bench?
Any chance he was royally pissed off about aggravating the shoulder injury that sidelined him for June, July and most of August?
They get more lively during the night and when the bigger markets are going on. Last night had 500+

Yes, that is a bronze sculpture of the celebration as George Foster scored the winning run in the deciding game of the 1972 NLCS.
May need sleep, it's 00:25 now.
Totally want to see this movie. It's about the time the CIA and the Canadian Embassy to Iran rescued the Americans that escaped the embassy. And the plan even indirectly involved Jack Kirby, which makes it all the more awesome.
He started the last game of the season and gave up 4 hits in 4 innings, so, probably not. :-)
