Angle illusion? Looked like it landed foul
   102. cardsfanboy Posted: October 08, 2012 at 05:56 PM (#4259521)
I haven't seen a replay(watching it on mlbtv.com) so I can't say, it looked foul to me, but the Nationals didn't complain, so I'm guessing an illusion.
   103. Tom Nawrocki Posted: October 08, 2012 at 05:56 PM (#4259522)
Might be time to bring in Strasburg.
   104. Lassus Posted: October 08, 2012 at 05:58 PM (#4259525)
Oh dear. Someone getting smacked around.
   105. cardsfanboy Posted: October 08, 2012 at 05:58 PM (#4259526)
Did he really just say that "how are you going to counter Nationals pitching, Cardinals offense has come alive."?

Really, you counter good pitching by getting hits, that is a good strategy?
   106. cardsfanboy Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:03 PM (#4259530)
Uggh. I hate the glove shuffle when it's not necessary. Too big of a chance of a mistake happening.

The announcer did bring up a good point though, it's become almost routine nowadays, probably to the point that it's practiced.
   107. salvomania Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:03 PM (#4259531)
Things really going the Birds' way in the early going of Game 2.

Four-run lead with one out in the 4th... 17 outs to go without giving up four runs to even up the series.

EDIT: And Lynn looking like he can get all 17 of those outs.
   108. McCoy Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:05 PM (#4259533)
Well, if the Cardinals win it guarantees that the series will go at least 4 games. Just one more game to go for a 5th game.
   109. fra paolo Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:07 PM (#4259538)
I put this game on after a later-than-expected Thanksgiving dinner, and find a rather worse situation than I anticipated.
   110. esseff Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:08 PM (#4259540)
Be interesting to see whether Lynn bats. Probably depends on situation. He threw just two pitches Friday and 10 Sunday.
   111. salvomania Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:09 PM (#4259541)
I just want to give Lynn a big hug after he fans a guy, and then does that little half spin off the mound.

   112. Bourbon Samurai Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:10 PM (#4259542)
stop with the inexplicable bunting Espinosa!
   113. salvomania Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:11 PM (#4259543)
Be interesting to see whether Lynn bats.

Given the horrible bats on the Cards bench (although all are far, far better than Lynn, who's at the bottom end of the hitting-pitcher spectrum) I say leave the so-far-very-effective and bat-missing Lynn in there with a four-run lead. Pretend he was the starting pitcher.
   114. cardsfanboy Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:12 PM (#4259544)
Bingo!!!
   115. salvomania Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:12 PM (#4259545)
DESCALSO'S BEEN THREATENING TO DO THAT ALL SERIES!!!
   116. Guts Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:12 PM (#4259546)
Descalso gives cfb his bingo.
   117. salvomania Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:13 PM (#4259547)
And for those of you familiar with Boston's North End, the cannon just went off as Descalso circled the bases.
   118. cardsfanboy Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:13 PM (#4259548)
Now I need a Kozma walk to get a third Bingo. :)
   119. salvomania Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:14 PM (#4259551)
If Matheny pinch hits for Lynn here he's an idiot who doesn't deserve his job.
   120. esseff Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:15 PM (#4259553)
Well, he can bunt Lynn now

EDIT: I raised the question about Lynn only in light of his (brief) relief appearances Friday and Sunday.
   121. Guts Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:15 PM (#4259554)
Now I need a Kozma walk to get a third Bingo. :)

This is getting weird....
   122. cardsfanboy Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:15 PM (#4259555)
Looks like Lynn is batting for himself. At this point in time that was an easy decision.
   123. salvomania Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:15 PM (#4259556)
Now I need a Kozma walk to get a third Bingo. :)

Please tell me you need a Craig grand slam.. in Game 3... for the fourth bingo.
   124. KJOK Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:16 PM (#4259557)
So Matheney is going to try to get multiple innings out of Lynn. Good....
   125. cardsfanboy Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:16 PM (#4259559)

This is getting weird....

All of my bingo cards have hit, no more weirdness for this game. :(
   126. salvomania Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:16 PM (#4259560)
An awkward K on a bunt attempt is a good at bat for Lance Lynn.

EDIT: And he's successful!
   127. cardsfanboy Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:17 PM (#4259561)
#### yea, Kozma.
   128. Scott Fischthal Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:18 PM (#4259562)
Nats look about as rattled as I've seen them all year.
   129. cardsfanboy Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:18 PM (#4259563)
I really hope that nobody says that the Nationals are rattled due to inexperience.
   130. McCoy Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:18 PM (#4259564)
You're lucky I already said it.
   131. fra paolo Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:18 PM (#4259566)
"Oh no," I cried as the ball went off the glove.
   132. Guts Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:19 PM (#4259567)
That was an above average bunt. Sadly, Matheny will use this as justification to make Craig bunt with no outs tomorrow or something.
   133. salvomania Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:19 PM (#4259568)
Kozma showing Hustle. and Grit.

For a fourth middle infielder that's called "padding the resume."

Just kidding, awesome play going 1st to 3rd on the sac bunt.
   134. Lassus Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:19 PM (#4259569)
I seem to recall that sac-bunt 1st-to-3rd as being specifically written about as originating in the Negro Leagues, from a book I can't remember the title of by a negro-leaguer I'm also forgetting.

Yes, I am very useful.
   135. esseff Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:20 PM (#4259570)
Espinosa would have had a tough plate at the plate anyway, because he would have had to pivot his body to the right before he could throw.
   136. Fat Al Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:20 PM (#4259574)
stop with the inexplicable bunting Espinosa!

He's always idolized Jeter.
   137. fra paolo Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:20 PM (#4259575)
Nats look about as rattled as I've seen them all year.

I blame the crypto-Braves hats. I don't like those.
   138. esseff Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:21 PM (#4259576)
Jay looked in as if was sposed to be hit-n-run.
   139. Lassus Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:22 PM (#4259579)
Inexplicable Bunting Espinosa

Now that's a username just WAITING for someone to jump on.
   140. Accent Shallow Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:26 PM (#4259583)
I was unaware that Christian Garcia was in the majors. Good for him.
   141. Bourbon Samurai Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:28 PM (#4259586)
Well, coming home with a split isn't too bad. This is a shellacking though.
   142. cardsfanboy Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:30 PM (#4259590)
Well, coming home with a split isn't too bad. This is a shellacking though.

It's not a shellacking if the teenage mutant turtles aren't involved.
   143. fra paolo Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:32 PM (#4259593)
This is a shellacking though.

a) It's not a shellacking until it is over.
b) The Cardinals have dominated the Nationals at Busch Stadium over time, so coming away with a split is really good, because the Nationals have a similar advantage over the Cardinals at home.
   144. fra paolo Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:34 PM (#4259595)
The Z-man!
   145. Guts Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:34 PM (#4259596)
Some of the shellack just fell off.
   146. fra paolo Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:36 PM (#4259597)
Oh gosh! LaRoche!
   147. Guts Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:36 PM (#4259598)
Yeah, so, maybe it's Kelly time. Lynn seems to have lost it quickly.
   148. Lassus Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:36 PM (#4259600)
I think everyone here knows that BourbonSamurai is pretty much responsible for this.
   149. cardsfanboy Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:37 PM (#4259601)
Don't let them get back into the game, show some killer instinct. We need a "shutdown inning right here"...oops too late.
   150. salvomania Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:43 PM (#4259605)
Love Brenly's comments:

"Cardinals better be careful, the Nationals can hit home runs in bunches. In back-to-back games earlier this year they hit six home runs in each game against the Cubs. .... Granted, it was against the Cubs' pitching..."
   151. Joey B. Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:45 PM (#4259608)
Quite a few people seemed to think that Zimmermann should have started Game 1. They obviously had no idea that he can't seem to pitch well against the Cardinals to save his life.
   152. Guts Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:46 PM (#4259612)
The new Garcia is really getting into the spirit of this series.
   153. Bourbon Samurai Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:46 PM (#4259613)
I think everyone here knows that BourbonSamurai is pretty much responsible for this.

We're shellacking 'em back now! Let's get four more shellacks!
   154. cardsfanboy Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:54 PM (#4259617)
Jay with another web gem.... His defense has improved this year dramatically in my opinion.

He still gets bad jumps though.
   155. Joey B. Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:54 PM (#4259618)
Wow.
   156. Lassus Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:54 PM (#4259620)
Woohooo! Fun.
   157. fra paolo Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:55 PM (#4259621)
Saved a shellack there.
   158. salvomania Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:55 PM (#4259622)
Man, Jay just stabbed that glove up there to make that catch after about 40 yards on a dead run. Incredible catch.
   159. Guts Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:55 PM (#4259624)
So that was nice.
   160. McCoy Posted: October 08, 2012 at 06:59 PM (#4259627)
So on one hand Taco Bell has a marketing campaign in which they stick a spanish accented chef in front of the camera and have her talk about the great quality ingredients that taco bell is is using in making their new bowls and on the other hand they have a marketing campaign that talks about the fact that Taco Bell is now making tacos out of Doritos.
   161. Crispix reaches boiling point with lackluster play Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:05 PM (#4259630)
So everyone is starting their sentences with "So" now.
   162. Guts Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:05 PM (#4259631)
So Beltran was pretty determined to pull the #### out of that ball.
   163. Bourbon Samurai Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:05 PM (#4259632)
Hell of a play by Jay. Easily could've had a couple runs come in that inning.
   164. cardsfanboy Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:05 PM (#4259633)
That one was Fair.
   165. cardsfanboy Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:06 PM (#4259634)
I already have Bingo on the card, but a Holliday homerun gives me three more bingo's on one card.
   166. Bourbon Samurai Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:07 PM (#4259637)
####
   167. Gamingboy Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:11 PM (#4259642)
Well, I'm back from Baltimore. Crazy few days. Larry, if you are here, sorry I never e-mailed you- between making sure all of my arrangements had been made, actually traveling and dealing with a hotel that had wi-fi in name only, I never was able to do it. Sorry about that.
   168. Joey B. Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:12 PM (#4259643)
Welcome to the series Bryce! It sure would have been nice if the bullpen could have kept it a little closer.
   169. Guts Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:14 PM (#4259644)
Harper is not having a good postseason so far.
   170. fra paolo Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:14 PM (#4259645)
So never make the second out at third.
   171. Bourbon Samurai Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:14 PM (#4259646)
Nice Harper!
   172. Lassus Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:14 PM (#4259647)
Whoops. That's a bit of a rally-killer.
   173. salvomania Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:15 PM (#4259648)
What a cartoonish throw by Holliday.
   174. esseff Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:16 PM (#4259649)
Don't think Harper expected the second baseman to make a play out in left field. Iow, I credit Descalso.
   175. salvomania Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:16 PM (#4259650)
Like a true veteran, Beltran is able to call for it without saying a word.
   176. esseff Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:33 PM (#4259664)
Someone in the back of the Cardinals' bullpen is going to have to step up (as they say), because some of the few who have been reliables are looking vulnerable.
   177. Guts Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:37 PM (#4259667)
Someone in the back of the Cardinals' bullpen is going to have to step up (as they say), because some of the few who have been reliables are looking vulnerable.

#mottetime #onlyneed3outs
   178. Guts Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:40 PM (#4259670)
That was close, I don't think I am prepared for a world where Descalso hits multiple homers in a postseason game.
   179. cardsfanboy Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:41 PM (#4259671)
Hitting the ball sharply still.
   180. Gamingboy Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:44 PM (#4259672)

Wait, the computer shows that first pitch as a strike? BRING ON THE ROBOT UMPS. So Sam can stab them in the neck.
   182. Guts Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:47 PM (#4259676)
Jay's had a nice little game here.
   183. cardsfanboy Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:47 PM (#4259677)
Is that a triple, or do they call that a double and error? I give the benefit of the doubt to the batter.
   184. greenback calls it soccer Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:47 PM (#4259678)
So Sam can stab them in the neck

Or throw a whiskey bottle at them.

Okay, so checklist just for Orioles-Yankees:

I see the B-game gets the checklist, the good game doesn't... :)
   186. Bourbon Samurai Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:49 PM (#4259680)
ahhhhhhh for ####'s sake

Sit Motte down.
   188. cardsfanboy Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:49 PM (#4259683)
Beltran has found the power he lost in August and September.
   189. Depressoteric feels Royally blue these days Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:49 PM (#4259684)
I suppose it's dumb to complain about balls and strikes, but I'm going to do it anyway: this home plate ump is a ####### disgrace.
   190. Guts Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:49 PM (#4259686)
I can live in a Beltran multi-homer world easily enough. Both from the right side, too.
   191. fra paolo Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:49 PM (#4259687)
The Cardinals need a shut-down inning after this.
   192. salvomania Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:49 PM (#4259688)
Good----the more the Birds' bats come out the better.

They're a streaky--both good and bad---offensive team.
   193. Depressoteric feels Royally blue these days Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:49 PM (#4259689)
Okay, no mas, no mas.
   194. Gamingboy Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:49 PM (#4259690)

Sorry, but I am unable to bend time and space...
   195. Lassus Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:49 PM (#4259691)
I hate the Cardinals, but it's still worth seeing Beltran do well.

Also, I'm dead serious about #181. People will have no idea how to react.
   196. toratoratora Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:50 PM (#4259692)
Crikey-Beltran post season makes Reggie look like a piker.
The man is insane
   197. cardsfanboy Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:51 PM (#4259694)

Sorry, but I am unable to bend time and space...

I guess the rumors of you looking like Matt Smith were greatly exaggerated.
   198. cardsfanboy Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:53 PM (#4259696)
MLBtv.com didn't go to commercial in progress right away, I don't see why they can't just have the camera's running the whole time.
   199. Bourbon Samurai Posted: October 08, 2012 at 07:53 PM (#4259697)
Beltran was awesome for my fantasy team right until he #### the bed in the round I needed to win the money, and now he's doing this. I proclaim you as my nemesis Carlos Beltran!

WE HAVE RAIN IN BALTIMORE! [X]

Let me tell you, it effing sucked last night during the rain delay. They didn't even bother to show the Nationals game on the Jumbotron until it was in like the 8th or 9th inning with the only entertainment being the ALDS logo screensaver they put up.
