A little too excited of a call for that.

Now that's some good smallball.

Reddick!!!!!!! My gosh. What a game.

Oh man.
   212. cardsfanboy Posted: October 07, 2012 at 02:38 PM (#4257961)
Did Versgarian exclaim "Santa Maria!" in the middle of the run-scoring play, or was I hallucinating it?

Someone did, it was pretty funny.
   213. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 07, 2012 at 02:38 PM (#4257962)
HAHAHA this is crazy.

   223. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: October 07, 2012 at 02:39 PM (#4257973)
All those strikeouts don't matter much now
   224. RMc's desperate, often sordid world Posted: October 07, 2012 at 02:39 PM (#4257974)
Benoit should not pitch another game for the Tigers, ever.
   225. Srul Itza At Home Posted: October 07, 2012 at 02:39 PM (#4257976)
Good thing he stole those bases.
   226. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 07, 2012 at 02:39 PM (#4257977)
I think "Santa Maria!" is a Versargian staple. I recall hearing it often on MLB: The Show.
   227. Justin T., Director of Somethin Posted: October 07, 2012 at 02:40 PM (#4257979)
I want to kiss Cespedes all about the face.

Good thing he stole those bases.

They distracted the pitcher!
   229. McCoy Posted: October 07, 2012 at 02:40 PM (#4257981)
Good thing he stole those bases.

I'm pretty sure it played a role in the A's scoring 2 runs there.
   230. cardsfanboy Posted: October 07, 2012 at 02:41 PM (#4257982)
Who effin throws a home run ball back in the playoffs?

Honestly, if you aren't a Cubs fan, I think anyone else throwing a homerun ball back is an idiot (Cubs because of tradition are exempt from that comment)

Stealing someone else's tradition is just lazy fans.
   231. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: October 07, 2012 at 02:41 PM (#4257983)
It has gotten church quiet in Detroit.
   232. Good cripple hitter Posted: October 07, 2012 at 02:42 PM (#4257984)
I didn't realize that Alberto Jose Alburquerque was back and pretty much the same pitcher he was before the injury.
   233. Dr. Vaux Posted: October 07, 2012 at 02:42 PM (#4257985)
What a terrible game. Nationals-Cardinals can't start soon enough.
   234. McCoy Posted: October 07, 2012 at 02:42 PM (#4257987)
Hell, if I'm at Wrigley Field during a playoff game and I catch an opposing team's home run ball I'm not throwing it back. Eff the mob.
   235. fra paolo Posted: October 07, 2012 at 02:42 PM (#4257988)

Well, it is Sunday.

Not that anyone needs my help to identify the most exciting game of the postseason so far, but this one officially clinched the top spot with Crisp's error, and is in the process of building a substantial lead.
   240. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 07, 2012 at 02:44 PM (#4257993)
I want to kiss Cespedes all about the face.

You'll have to wait until Coco Crisp is finished with him.
   241. Justin T., Director of Somethin Posted: October 07, 2012 at 02:45 PM (#4257994)
Holding a lead for even a half-inning would be an improvement now.
   242. Bourbon Samurai in Asia Posted: October 07, 2012 at 02:45 PM (#4257996)
Yankees/O's lineups

Not feeling great about the O's chances today, but who knows.
   243. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 07, 2012 at 02:45 PM (#4257997)
That's Vasgersian on the call? I'm digging it. I think it's better to err on the side of too excited when you're calling a playoff game.
   244. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 07, 2012 at 02:45 PM (#4257998)
Of course, given how this game has gone over the last 20 minutes, this one is far from over.

I don't get the hate for him. I think he does a rather good job, both in the booth and behind the MLB Tonight desk.

I could see myself doing that. You're disappointed, you're frustrated, and in your hands you have a reminder of what just happened to piss you off so much. I completely get the urge to toss the ball as far away as you can.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
   249. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 07, 2012 at 02:48 PM (#4258005)
Walking Delmon Young should be a punishable offense. Even the Tigers radio announcers can't hide their disdain for his inability to take four outside of the zone.

He's actually hated? So far he seems good. Kaat's said some crazy things, but it's much better than yesterday's game with Buck Martinez, or some of Fox's teams.

Does any team have more flat-out fat players than Detroit? Miggy looks svelte among this bunch.

An hour late, mrs fra paolo is finally ready to go. So I'll be excusing myself from the Chatter until the Reds vs Giants game, I think.

I just waited a second to see if the unlikely event of a Delmon Young walk would happen.

Dmitri didn't age that well either, maybe it's a genetic thing.

They just introduced Strasburg during the opening ceremony.
   255. Eric J can SABER all he wants to Posted: October 07, 2012 at 02:50 PM (#4258012)
SCOUT: Ryan Cook may prefer to go after Delmon Young, whose OPS is .704 this season, with the fastball rather than face Austin Jackson, whose OPS is .850.

Since Jackson would be the fifth batter of the inning, I have no idea what this means.
   256. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 07, 2012 at 02:50 PM (#4258013)
I can't imagine watching this as a tried and true A's fan. It must be excruciating.

How many teams would use a pinch runner for their starting shortstop?

Very odd.

   263. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: October 07, 2012 at 02:54 PM (#4258022)
I think Vasgersian has been generally well received around here today. I certainly like him.

Tigers were wishing Jim Joyce had made that call at 1B just now.

Any weather update at Camden?

I don't get the hate for him. I think he does a rather good job, both in the booth and behind the MLB Tonight desk.

I'm liking him I think. He might be neutral, but he isn't boring/bored(Joe Buck, take a lesson from him)
   269. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: October 07, 2012 at 02:56 PM (#4258030)
That's as overmatched as you can be.

well, they went a game and a half cleanly played.
   281. Justin T., Director of Somethin Posted: October 07, 2012 at 03:00 PM (#4258045)
Poor Cespedes didn't know what he was getting into. They don't talk about Byrnes and Tejada and Chavez in Cuba.

Oakland's determined the give this game away, but Detroit won't take it. (And the umps aren't helping. Must've gotten the memo from the networks: "We can't send our announcers to Detroit! They'll get killed by all the violent black people!")
   284. Justin T., Director of Somethin Posted: October 07, 2012 at 03:01 PM (#4258049)

So instead we'll send them to Oakland, which is two whole spots lower on the list of the 10 most dangerous cities in the US.
   287. escabeche Posted: October 07, 2012 at 03:06 PM (#4258056)
Thome not in today's lineup for the O's. His career batting average against Sabathia is just .133, 4 hits in 30 at bats. On the other hand, all 4 of those hits were home runs, so his slugging percentage is quite respectable.
   288. salajander Posted: October 07, 2012 at 03:08 PM (#4258058)
"a comb and a comicbook" ... where did Vasgergian come up with that?

I went to a buffalo wings place in Ghost Town recently. It was really scary. The proprietors were behind an impressive amount of bulletproof glass. The wings were good but I will not be returning at night.

I wouldn't be shocked to see St Louis jumping back up to the top spot, it used to be East St Louis corrupting the numbers, but my girlfriend works for the St Louis County police department(not even the city) and claims there seems like there is a shooting every night.

"Hit the bull win a steak." I'm really enjoying him. He gets excited but doesn't overwhelm the moment and seems to genuinely be enjoying the game.

And that 3-2 pitch looked like a strike to me.

The no doubles defense, with a singles hitter at the plate, seems a poor choice.

I also hate the Cardinals, probably b/c of Tony LaRussa.

It's interesting that I have a strong preference in all 4 series. That almost never happens.

Why not use Carter here instead of Drew? They have a backup MI on the bench, no?

Edit: I guess that's why.
