LET'S GO NATS!!!

494 - I think it's because I'm on my iPad so I'm getting the mobile MLB site,

Told ya: Samsung.
   503. Bourbon Samurai in Asia Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:07 PM (#4258337)
GAH WHY DO YOU WASTE A DAMN OUT
   504. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:07 PM (#4258339)
That's a hell of a scoop.

502 - well played.
   505. cardsfanboy Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:07 PM (#4258340)
Of course after that screwed up inning, the Nats immediately go and tie it up.... Ugh. Really needed that one run.

Nice play all around by the batter and the pitcher and Descalso.
   506. VoodooR Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:07 PM (#4258341)
Was he bunting on his own?
   507. Guts Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:07 PM (#4258342)
Nice play by Craig. Boggs is shitting the bed here though.
   508. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:08 PM (#4258343)
What a stupid decision.
   509. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:09 PM (#4258344)
I thought Wade Boggs retired a long time ago???
   510. salvomania Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:09 PM (#4258345)
The TBS crawl just IDed the Giants pitcher as "Baumgarner"
   511. Austin Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:09 PM (#4258346)
Wow. That was terrible. Would you trust Kurt Suzuki to drive in the runner from third against Boggs?
   512. Bourbon Samurai in Asia Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:10 PM (#4258348)
good take
   513. esseff Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:10 PM (#4258349)
Had to be a missed sign by runner on third, didn't it?
   514. Bourbon Samurai in Asia Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:11 PM (#4258350)
Ok Tracy time to be a hero
   515. Guts Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:11 PM (#4258351)
Big out. Need one more.
   516. esseff Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:11 PM (#4258352)
No Scrabble.

EDIT: Noooooo. They'll just ph for the ph
   517. cardsfanboy Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:11 PM (#4258353)
Yes!!!! Now let's see if they can keep the lead.
   518. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:11 PM (#4258354)
Had to be a missed sign by runner on third, didn't it?

Sure seemed like Espinosa decided to bunt on his own.
   519. Bourbon Samurai in Asia Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:11 PM (#4258355)
Had to be a missed sign by runner on third, didn't it?

Either that or he did it on his own because Morse sure didn't look like he was expecting it.
   520. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:12 PM (#4258356)
Would you trust Kurt Suzuki to drive in the runner from third against Boggs?

Suzuki has been coming up big in the last couple weeks of the season. Athletics waived him, he waved at strike 3. Oh well.
   521. salvomania Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:12 PM (#4258357)
Ugh, Scrabble...

First batters are OBPing about .600 against him...
   522. cardsfanboy Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:12 PM (#4258358)
Had to be a missed sign by runner on third, didn't it?

I don't see how he didn't score on that play. It was a good enough bunt to do that.
   523. VoodooR Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:12 PM (#4258359)
Had to be a missed sign by runner on third, didn't it?

It looked like he was cursing himself after the throw was made to first. So yes, I guess. It was probably a safety squeeze that Morse missed.
   524. Guts Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:12 PM (#4258360)
No Scrabble.

Bad news....this is a terrible move. Tracy can't possibly catch up to Boggs' FB, right? Matheny makes the worst moves.

And they PH with Moore. This is a horrible, horrible scenario.
   525. KJOK Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:13 PM (#4258361)
I can't believe Davey Johnson would have actually called for a bunt there - he had the Cardinals on the ropes.
   526. Tripon Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:15 PM (#4258362)
The mobile phone/tablet discussion is sort of interesting if only because people are giving credit to Samsung for a lot of what the Android OS does instead of Samsung.
   527. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:15 PM (#4258363)
Would rather have seen the Cards just go to Motte.
   528. KJOK Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:15 PM (#4258364)
Rzep against any RH batter is a bad matchup
   529. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:16 PM (#4258365)
Either that or he did it on his own because Morse sure didn't look like he was expecting it.

Or he did it because he can't buy a swinging base hit.
   530. cardsfanboy Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:16 PM (#4258366)
Would rather have seen the Cards just go to Motte.

Yep.
   531. Bourbon Samurai in Asia Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:16 PM (#4258367)
YES!!!!!! sometimes a bloop is all you need
   532. cardsfanboy Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:16 PM (#4258368)
sonuvabeach.
   533. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:16 PM (#4258369)
Finally a clutch hit!
   534. VoodooR Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:16 PM (#4258370)
Good thing he bunted that guy over to second! Brilliant!
   535. Guts Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:17 PM (#4258371)
Yep. Game over. Matheny blew this, although the incompetence of the offense didn't help.
   536. Bourbon Samurai in Asia Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:17 PM (#4258372)
Now Werth make up for missing with the bases loaded and get us another one
   537. salvomania Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:17 PM (#4258373)
Would love to see Trevor Rosenthal and his 98 mph fastball and great control there instead of Scrabble and his "location"
   538. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:17 PM (#4258374)
Letting scrabble face Werth seems like a REALLY bad move.
   539. esseff Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:18 PM (#4258375)
Did Matheny really not recognize that the Nats would ph for the ph, or did he willfully decide he'd like to have Scrabble pitch to a righty with the game on the line?

   540. cardsfanboy Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:18 PM (#4258376)
Yep. Game over. Matheny blew this, although the incompetence of the offense didn't help.

It's close to being over, can't give up yet, but agree with everything in the quote. Motte should have been pitching or Boggs should have been left in there.
   541. Justin T., Director of Somethin Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:19 PM (#4258377)
Werthless.
   542. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:19 PM (#4258378)
Rzep against any RH batter is a bad matchup

Wait until you see bad Clipboard on the bump here for the Nats. Salve for your wounds.
   543. Lassus Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:20 PM (#4258379)
I know someone liked it earlier, but touching phones as some kind of awesomeness that should make you feel dumb for buying an iPhone is idiotic. And I have an Android.
   544. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:20 PM (#4258380)
Yep. Game over.

Just like it was game over every time Tigers fans said that earlier today!
   545. Guts Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:20 PM (#4258381)
Did Matheny really not recognize that the Nats would ph for the ph, or did he willfully decide he'd like to have Scrabble pitch to a righty?

Matheny is an idiot, who knows what he was thinking. That was the worst possible outcome in that situation and it was totally his fault.
   546. KJOK Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:21 PM (#4258382)
Hopefully Matheney redeems himself by PH Carpenter for Kozma at least.

   547. cardsfanboy Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:21 PM (#4258383)
Have to say, these games may not have been the prettiest so far, but every post season game so far has been nail biting(every game has featured the tying run at the plate in the 8th or later)
   548. Bourbon Samurai in Asia Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:21 PM (#4258384)
I hope Clip is over his yips from late in the year.
   549. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:21 PM (#4258385)
Final,y found bingo, can't make it work. Definitely a mobile device issue. One more reason Sean Forman his history's greatest person. BbRef makes it easy to choose the desktop site if you refer that option.
   550. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:22 PM (#4258386)
where was that first pitch to freese??
   551. cardsfanboy Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:22 PM (#4258387)
I know someone liked it earlier, but touching phones as some kind of awesomeness that should make you feel dumb for buying an iPhone is idiotic. And I have an Android.

I don't think anyone liked it, were just commenting on it, and someone was clarifying exactly what that feature is.
   552. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:22 PM (#4258388)
second pitch in the same place and that's a strike

sigh
   553. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:22 PM (#4258389)
What the hell happened there?
   554. The John Wetland Memorial Death (CoB) Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:22 PM (#4258390)
Oh fer ####'s sake.
   555. cardsfanboy Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:23 PM (#4258391)
Another error on the first baseman.... Let's hope it's a beginning of a rally.
   556. esseff Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:23 PM (#4258392)
Nice throw, nice pick. This game needs Leonard Pinth-Garnell on play-by-play.
   557. Guts Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:23 PM (#4258393)
Maybe the Nats will go all Barves here.
   558. Bourbon Samurai in Asia Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:23 PM (#4258394)
fuuuuck
   559. Justin T., Director of Somethin Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:23 PM (#4258395)
Zimmerman's got some Athletic in him.
   560. VoodooR Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:23 PM (#4258396)
Lousy throw, but it should have been dug out.
   561. Joyful Calculus Instructor Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:23 PM (#4258397)
Conveniently timed rain in Baltimore for TBS.
   562. Lassus Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:23 PM (#4258398)
Zimmerman, some day you'll be as good as Wright.

Oy, that replay makes the 1B look kind of lame as well.
   563. KJOK Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:23 PM (#4258399)
Cardinals almost have as many reached on errors as base hits in the first two playoff games.
   564. JJ1986 Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:23 PM (#4258400)
I know someone liked it earlier, but touching phones as some kind of awesomeness that should make you feel dumb for buying an iPhone is idiotic. And I have an Android.

I don't understand what they mean by 'playlist'. Are they transferring a list's worth of songs or just a list that plays on some online site?
   565. Esoteric Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:23 PM (#4258401)
GODDAMMIT RYAN
   566. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:23 PM (#4258402)
Laroche probably should've scooped that but what an awful throw.
   567. Guts Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:24 PM (#4258403)
second pitch in the same place and that's a strike

Complaining about the strike zone again, eh Harveys?
   568. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:24 PM (#4258404)
Is Chambers "minor league guy" from spring training?
   569. JJ1986 Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:25 PM (#4258405)
Is Chambers "minor league guy" from spring training?

That's top prospect Oscar Taveras.
   570. KJOK Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:25 PM (#4258406)
No minor league guy was Oscar Taveras I think.
   571. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:26 PM (#4258409)
Not sure why I thought it was Chambers.
   572. esseff Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:26 PM (#4258410)
But pr-ing Chambers prevented a forceout on that not-so-good bunt.
   573. cardsfanboy Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:26 PM (#4258411)
I don't understand what they mean by 'playlist'. Are they transferring a list's worth of songs or just a list that plays on some online site?

Just the playlist(list of the songs...not the actual songs)

Taking Freeze out means can't PH for Kozma - Uhg Matheney...
   575. Guts Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:28 PM (#4258413)
Taking Freeze out means can't PH for Kozma - Uhg Matheney...

You expected better? Matheny does not have any sort of tactical ability, as he has displayed all year.
   576. cardsfanboy Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:28 PM (#4258414)
I'm not sure what our lineup is going to be now... We don't have a third baseman unless you move Descalso over, then we don't have a second baseman, although Craig has played there for a game or two in his career(and minors a little)
   577. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:28 PM (#4258415)
Funny thing, I have no real rooting interest but I'm finding my instinctive reactions suggest I'm rooting for St. Louis.
   578. Bourbon Samurai in Asia Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:28 PM (#4258416)
man I might think about Burnett here.
   579. Guts Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:29 PM (#4258417)
I'm not sure what our lineup is going to be now... We don't have a third baseman unless you move Descalso over, then we don't have a second baseman, although Craig has played there for a game or two in his career(and minors a little)

Carpenter will move to 3B, right?
   580. esseff Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:29 PM (#4258418)
Carpenter to third, I'm sure. Pitcher in Freese/chambers hole.
   581. Bourbon Samurai in Asia Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:29 PM (#4258419)
Funny thing, I have no real rooting interest but I'm finding my instinctive reactions suggest I'm rooting for St. Louis.

I always enjoy when I'm watching a game I think I have no interest in and then discovering I am rooting for someone.

Of course in this case your instincts are wrong, but what can you do :)
   582. JJ1986 Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:30 PM (#4258420)
Just the playlist(list of the songs...not the actual songs)

That's not a feature that I would be bragging about.
   583. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:31 PM (#4258421)
I think it's the uniforms. The Cardinals uni is a baseball classic, the Nat unis are kind of spring trainingy.
   584. Guts Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:31 PM (#4258422)
"Catches the outside corner."

Sure.
   585. Bourbon Samurai in Asia Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:31 PM (#4258423)
As usual Davey knows better than me! Nice! Let's get some insurance
   586. esseff Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:32 PM (#4258424)
Umpire looking over the inside shoulder is always going to be half-guessing on the away pitch.
   587. KJOK Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:32 PM (#4258426)
Carpenter to third certainly. Tony Cruz can also fake 3rd base if it were to come to that.
   588. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:32 PM (#4258427)
guts

give me a break. if that was against a cardinal you would be discussing 'facts'

it was an observation supporting my contention that umpire quality continues to degrade as nobody is holding them accountable

does anyone believe that the umpires have not regressed over the last few years?

i
   589. Lassus Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:32 PM (#4258428)
I'm basically rooting for 5 games.
   590. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:33 PM (#4258429)
i don't use the 'ignore' feature but for the remainder of the playoffs i will work to not respond to any known cardinal fans post

it's pointless. save for perhaps phredbird a rational discussion is not possible

   591. Guts Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:34 PM (#4258431)
Harveys - Just kidding! I think the zones are terrible, but have refrained from complaining about it. Well, until #584. And I guess again now.
   592. Esoteric Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:34 PM (#4258432)
Clippard just came up big in the biggest moment of his entire career so far.
   593. Esoteric Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:36 PM (#4258433)
Gotta agree with HW -- this is one funky strike zone tonight.
   594. Bourbon Samurai in Asia Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:36 PM (#4258434)
Ok Zimmerman make up for your shitty throwing
   595. cardsfanboy Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:36 PM (#4258435)
Now Motte comes in after the lead is gone. Uggh I really hate that. He should have been in there last inning.

As it stands, the only pitchers that should ever pitch in a 9 inning close game, is Motte, Boggs, Rosenthal and Mujica.
   596. Bourbon Samurai in Asia Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:37 PM (#4258436)
Ok Laroche make up for your shitty picking
   597. cardsfanboy Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:37 PM (#4258437)
Post season managing is different than regular season managing, you don't use your scrub pitchers except absolutely necessary.
   598. Esoteric Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:38 PM (#4258438)
Don't worry, CFB. I am eminently persuaded of the Nats' ability to blow this game in the 9th inning.
   599. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:38 PM (#4258439)
Oh good, more discussion of the sun. These guys are going to break into a song and dance routine set to the tune of me and my shadow
   600. Guts Posted: October 07, 2012 at 06:38 PM (#4258440)
Now Motte comes in after the lead is gone. Uggh I really hate that. He should have been in there last inning.

But he's the closer! He can only pitch in the 9th! #firematheny
